I've just paid an eye-watering 14 pounds 75p for Alfa-A Oil (13 pounds 20p with the shop's pony club discount)
My hair foils colour will have to wait another week!!
He's looking so well on the Alfa-A Oil I'm loath to substitute a cheaper feed especially going into winter.
Alfa-A is 12 pounds & 25p.
Arlo has the A-A Oil combined with Allen & Page Calm & Condition which is holding its price at 12 pounds & 20p.
How much is everyone else paying for hard feed?
Is it increasing nationwide?

I just paid £13.82 for a bag of alpha A oil and for C&C over £10.

The problem is the raw material market at the moment has been very volatile and the price of raw materials such as wheat, barley, wheatfeed, soya, rapeseed etc have all shot up over the summer. Unfortunately this is bumping up the price of feed. The same thing is happening to sheep and cattle feed. It will come back down at some point...fingers crossed!

ever tried top spec feed balancer! 36 quid!!
best thing is tho.. it supplaments supplaments! so only needs a bit of sunflower oil now and then to loosen up and garlic in the summer :D

If you saw the parlous state of the crops in many areas of the country you'd not be too harsh, it's not extortion tho it feels like it; it's a direct reflection of grim harvests with very low yields on everything.

I thought my neighbours barley crop was the stubble post harvest, but it was actually the crop!! :-OO About 4 inches tall. He's harvested the pathetic amount of barley but there was no straw at all to speak of; he has cattle to bed and will have to buy in, but noone has any spare.

Im lucky as I only have sheep and the horses, but seeing what the farmers are struggling with I reckon we are lucky they let any of the precious straw and grain off the farm at the mo. Esp as fertilisers are so expensive and every time you sell your straw you lose nutrients you could have ploughed back in.

We've got LOADS of lovely straw thats been harvested around us :) I do feel for farmers though :(

I pay £10.05 a bag of Winergy low and £10.65 a bag of Winergy Medium, so not bad at the moment. :)

Where do you get your Kwickbeet Martlin? I've just paid £8.20 (yesterday) at our local suppliers.

Instead of Alpha A Oil I buy the Mollichaff equivalent which comes in a 18kg bag & is £9.95.
it's called something like Alfalfa Oil. Don't know what the dengie bag weighs though.

Guess it's gone up then along with everything else, as that's where I went yesterday. Don't think their prices are bad on the whole.

Not sure what's what on my receipt, but I bought KwikBeet, Fast Fibre & Mollichaff Alfalfa Oil, & it's itemised as £8.20, £9.95 & £9.75.

Won't be needing the oats this year as won't be hunting very much & have 2 ponies who definitely don't need them! Thanks for the offer though.

Got the rest of my hay in last weekend from the friendly farmer for £2.50 a bale. :)

I do . feel for the farmers, I live on a farm. The shop where I bought the feed is very local to me and to be honest does have quite a reputation for being 'a bit toppish' with the equine stuff' prices.
I'm going to shop around. We have another feed merchant which is noticeably cheaper but it's about a 10 mile round trip. When you factor in diesel it might not be worth it for 3 bags of feed. The pony has Healthy Hooves which Torne Valley retail at 11 pounds 25p at the moment

I shop around for mine- I get Baileys topline cubes for £9.50 or racehorse cubes for £9.85 if I don't have time to go to the other place. Get my stud balancer for £20.40 and my outshine for around £28. I buy any old chaff for around £3.50- £5.00 but I only feed it to the ones who are just on balancer.

Ive just paid £25 for a bag of mollichaff and 2 bags of Allen and Page Calm and Condition. I dont think that is too bad as it lasts ages.

We paid £10.20 for a 20kg bag of Healthy Hooves which was discounted by my local feed/tack shop.

Think all prices are staying the same there for the foreseeable future at Tower Farm

I pay the following:

Alfa A Oil - £14.30
Speedibeet - £11.99
Nuts (maintenance) - £4.99
Barley Rings - £10.20
Soya Oil - £10.65
Healthy Hooves - £10.99

Big round hay bales - £15.00

XxX

Why do people buy quick beet? I buy non-molassed beet for 6 euros (about £5) for 20kg.

D&H which is imported is very expensive. In fact for supplements it is cheaper to buy in the UK and pay postage. Alfa A is made in France but there is a distribution problem for Dengie so I am getting a German product at the moment. I pay 11.20 euros or £9.

Prices are high because a hot dry summer has reduced yields for many forage products and grains. Our hay crop was 40% of previous years.

We are hoping for another 6 weeks of good grass to help keep feed costs down.

Mine have to be molasses free so it's Mollichaff Alfa Oil or Badminton equivalent.
I can't affard Speedibeet so I will have to buy SupaBeet and just soak the molasses off.
TopSpec conditioning Flakes wasn't as dear as I thought it would be, but mine both share Blue Chip Pro and Dynamicon the smallest amount feasibleas I try and eke it out.
Fortunately the broodmare tolerates barley so I will be boiling that up for her come the bad weather (out 24/7) and they both get home boiled linseed.
My yard makes its' own haylege and he got the straw in yesterday but I will have to fill the lorry with hay for the mare.
Is there any basic chop which comes unmollassed, mine eat anything mixed with sugarbeet.

Because slow soak unmollassed beet doesn't seem to be stocked in the feed stores in this locality. You can get slow soak mollassed beet OR quick soak unmollassed beet. Of course, I could drive further to a stockist, but then I would lose in petrol costs what I would gain in feed price cost.

I would really like to buy unmollassed but it is just now available round here. As a child we had a chop cutter. It had a huge wheel with blades and we pushed through a wodge of straw next to a wodge of hay, I could do with that this winter.

not too bad here

fast fibre - £7.32
hifi senior - £11.40
alfa a - £12.36
old faithfuls - £10.46
spillers lite balancer - £14.99
spillers senior balencer - £29.99

I am buying the following feed I do need to order 20 bags or more but have found the saving worth it.

Alfa A Original £9.69
Pegasus Nuts £5.26
Spillers Competition Mix £8.00
D & H Mare & Youngstock Mix £9.56
Bailey Outshine £32.16

Delivery £5

Ours have unmolassed chaff and I have had a bugger of a time finding it! They have topspec topchop lite or badmington alfa lite (it is actually the same stuff so just get the cheapest!).

I pay a truly eye-watering £30 a bag for Pure Feed's Pure Balance feed. However, it's not something I begrudge as (a) the horse went from awful to sane and saintly on it, and (b) it's just a balancer - you feed tiny amounts of it and then add lots of forage, which I have ad lib on my livery. So it lasts for ages. I'd rather have good feed that cost more and suited my horse than move on her on to cheap stuff and have her flip again.
