Do you turn out on really windy days??
My stables are brick with the old fashioned slate roof. I have electric fencing in field. I'm worried that the roof will blow off it the fencing will disappear across the field!!

Don't know what to do for the best!!!!???

I keep mine in during high winds ... my big boy is none to keen on it and I don't see the point in making work for myself, nor going grass skiing. They're happy in, so in they shall stay!

Tatts lives out ,he has a shed the only time he really uses it is when it's windy so I would say in .

I do always turnout the stabled horses for a short time no matter what .

Whatever is their usual routine. Except for one mare who is truly awful in the wind. I would keep her in. There's always horses in during the winter as some are out in the day and the others overnight, so there's always company for her.

My boys don't mind the odd day in. I am around on Saturday to keep my eye on them but i'm at work tomorrow all day and I think if they're out I will worry all day!!

We're due to hit over 100mph tonight - the boys are out, because last time it got this gusty (albeit from a different direction), their shelters moved, so I want them to be able to get out of the way if buildings start flying around. They are rugged for once though.

a girl at my yard mentioned these winds that you speak of, apparently coming tonight but when I look at the local weather report the wind speed tonight is 16 42-mph

weird!

but I have 2 out 24/7 and on in 20 hrs a days, so will stay the same :)

I think you should do whatever they're used to so as to minimise any stress. Personally mine live out 24/7 (with access to open stables) so that's how they are tonight with the strong winds forecast. I'd rather they had room to run to escape a bit of roof shearing off or a tree falling down!

Anyway, everywhere I've looked online have said its us up North Scotland who are going to get the bad winds? Doesn't say its forecast down south? 70mph winds forecast for my postcode although doesn't seem too bad yet. We do live on top of a high hill though so hope it isn't too bad!!

Mine live out 24/7 anyway with a shelter each but I've always preferred them out on windy days,as always had big trees near stables and always had a weird fear that it would fall and trap the horses.

I've no idea where I got the weird obsession lol :/

Nothing much happening here yet - we too are expecting 100mph. Saw some impressive spray coming off the atlantic today - other side of the hills the north sea was very calm.

Funny how we ride in winds that the southerners would be hiding under tables with! :D

its windy but not horrendous here in the Midlands...........mine are out today and will be in tonight as usual.

They NEVER go out overnight, even in summer so are def going to be more settled in than out and my stables are super secure brick. So far never lost a roof tile either, fingers crossed, and no big trees that would touch stables if they came down.

Mine live out we had it quite bad last night but not as bad as when we had hurricane baw bag. Horses very happy at stupid o clock in field this morning 1 was even lying down fir a snooze. Having had to have a pony rescued by fire brigade police and Vet from a stable due to storm damage iI'm much happier with them out x

Out. The chances of a tree falling on them in a 12 acre field are much smaller than a stable wall or roof falling on them in a 12ft square space they can't escape.
