My beloved Basset Hound has recently had a VERY horrid tumour removed from his tongue.

The vets prognosis was pretty dire as it's likely to have spread to his lungs etc being the fact it was in his mouth.

It looks as though all of it was removed though as he's fine now and his tongue is great (bar the big missing piece!)

We've decided not to have any tests to see if it's spread as I already know I wouldn't put him through any Chemo or anything.

I just wondered if anyone else had heard of positive recoveries from tongue tumours?

I've not had experience of tongue tumour, we are currently goign through similar with our cat who has an aggressive cancer, fibrosarcoma on his flank, and we have gone for surgery once and won't do it again as it was so quick growing, I am sorry to hear about your dog, what did the vet think of the tumour ie is it quick growing etc?

Our bull mastiff is currently having chemo and except for her having less energy than usual it has had no obvious effect on her.
According to our vet chemo does not usually affect dogs like it does people.
Good lick with your Bassie, they are great dogs

I had few bassets too... Unfortunately one of them was put down at age of 10 due to aggressive tumour growth (it was already grapefruit sized) in his stomach. He virutally went down hill in the space of only few weeks, we had him under GA for exploratory check in his guts etc, it was when they found the tumour, the vet was not too happy about his progonsis so they called me while he was under.. I just told him to let him go without trying anything, i already said my goodbyes before he went to the vet as i had the gut feeling that i won't see him again..... it was so hard to do that, I loved him so much and he was the greatest dog i made the right decision as i don't want him to suffer anymore.

Loads of vibes for your Basset...

Thanks everyone.

The vet said it was a very fast growing one, which seeing as now about a month after surgery that his tongue is clear and very clean looking it's one good sign.

It is the type though if it has spread the vet said we'll know very quickly (if one starts growing).

I think I'll just let him tell me.

Thanks again. Stories good and bad are comforting in a strange way? Suppose it's because we feel less alone.
