Extremely itchy and rubbed tail raw :(

Can anybody help my mare- to add to her list of issues shes now got extremely itchy skin! (and worryingly getting patches where the girth goes!) everyday i've been to find more tail gone and now i've had to cut most of the top off so i can wash it and get the itchy skin off - have been using baby cradle cap on it. she doesnt seem to have an extremely itchy mane (but still quite itchy)

Have been bathing her and putting sudocreme on the itchy tail which helped but shes still rubbing really bad and she can't afford to loose much more tail !!

what can i do!! - btw shes not had this before, she has itched and lost some hair but NOTHING like this

If she is being bitten by midges around the tail, the best thing is to get some Benzil Benzoate from the chemist. Rub it through the hair of the tail as far down into the skin as possible. You will be amazed how effective this is.

Cant remember how much Benzil Benzoate is but any chemist should be able to get it in for you. It lasts for yonks, hence why I cant remember what it cost!

have some on order ! gave her another bath today to scrub some itchy skin off and seems to help along with lots of sudocrem on the tail- growing back already! glad her hair grows really quick. thanks very much will be glad to see her comfortable at last she looks so irritated

I find Gold Label Wonder Gel is great for soothing the skin and encouraging new hair growth.

Carr and Day and Martin "Kill Itch" is better than benzyl benzoate, it stops the itching completely, which ime bb doesn't.
