ok iam at a loss as to what to do next anmd the vet hasnt a clue either so heres the story
. Sorry its long
Hi i was wondering if you could recommend anything to help my horse.
He has been mildly itchy for a couple of years but was managed as sweetitch.
I thought he may be lacking something as his coat was dull and scurfy so on
12th oct gave him spillers original balancer at 1 mug half reccomended dose.
After 4 mugs he came out in hives and was incredibly itchy. Took him off it
and within a week was ok
He was then rubbing his tail so on 15th nov was wormed with pramox. On the
4th dec he was itchy again. And then on the 8th at 3am he was so bad he bit
his flanks open and a stroke with your hand sent him into itch heaven.
Vet came on the 8th gave corticorsteroid injection antibs took skin scrapes
& bloods for cushings and insulin. All came back clear. He was at the time
eating meadow hayledge. Hifi molasses free grass nuts straw bed. No turnout.
All tests came backclear.
All feed removed and on a hay only diet. He is still really itchy. Can not
be left without a turnout rug as bites himself raw. Vet has no idea what is
wrong. And has been moulting all year.

Is there anything herbal I could give him to help, or any thing we may have missed?
Thankyou

An itchy one I had in the past turned out to be allergic to the straw bedding. I presume he has been injected with Dectomax or similar to make sure he hasn't got mites or other creatures living on him.

My friends mare was found to be allergic to molasses, she used to be itchy all over and would rub her mane/tail out. She's now on a molasses free diet (you'd be surprised at how many feeds have even a small bit in!) and she's been fine since!

I had one allergic to shavings so bedding is well worth considering on paper she was a different horse .
A friends horse was allergic to birds feathers .

he isnt on molasses at all has had no feed at all for 9 weeks, has been washed in deosect 3 times just in case, but hasnt been given or recommended dectomax by the vet
he has also been on straw, shavings, megasorb, paper, rubber all had no effect on the itch
