Eye injury /pos removal

Has anyone had any experience with a deep eye injury probably caused by a bang to it.
It was looking ok yesterday but swollen up today, no discharge though, the eye is white and can just see the pupil through the white, treating as per the vet but it might need to be removed.
Has anyone had an eye removed hopefully it won’t come to that but just wondering how much to budget for .
Pony is a companion only but we’ll obviously still do what’s best for her

A friend had a mare, few years ago now, who had Uveitis. The local vet was treating it but it wasn't responding. In the end the mare was referred to Newmarket Vet hospital. They battled to save the eye but treatment failed and the eye was removed. The horse had to stay as an in-patient. I think the vet bill was in excess of £3,000. (I hope you have insurance). However, once the eye was removed the horse was so much more comfortable and went on to live a happy, normal life. Hope your horse doesn't need this op. Good luck.

Hi, my horse had her eye removed also at Newmarket. Done but standing sedation. She did stay in don’t think it was over £2000. Never bothered her at all

Yes, one of our ponies did, think she spiked herself in the hedge, it didn't heal properly so the eye was removed. I think it cost around £1000 (which was more than she was worth at the time)
She never noticed, or behaved any differently straight away, got started no probs, and has turned into a fab all rounder

Thanks, she’s not covered for vet fees ��*♀️
If treating doesn’t work then we’ll just get it removed, she’ll never be a competition or ridden pony, just don’t want her suffering.

Horse at the local riding school had an eye removed, cost just over £800, done under sedation. He recovered well and went back to jumping and hacking out for a couple of years before age caught up with him and he had another couple of years in retirement.
