I need my collie eye testing (DNA) does anyone know if any vets can do this or only specific vets - also when I phone what exactly am I asking for - obv CEA but does it cover other eye problems?
(for the ISDS)

There are lists of vets and clinics hidden in this page as a "normal" vet cannot do it it need to be a panel vet.
All breeds can attend clinics whatever breed organises the session and this can be much cheaper. http://www.dogworld.co.uk/section.php/Show-calendar/Eye-heart-ear-testing

A border collie is tested for CEA, PLL & CPRA and you have to take along all registration documents and a microchip is needed. ( chipping can usually be done on the day)

For CEA either your vet can take the blood and you can post it to Optigen or you can look for Optigen clinics http://www.optigen.com/opt11_calendar.taf .

If you need CPRA test then at the moment there isn't a DNA test and you have to go to a BVA appointed eye specialist http://www.bva.co.uk/public/documents/EP_list_Jan_2012.pdf . They also do the gonioscopy test to check angles of drainage and likelyhood to develop glaucoma.

Other DNA tests (for other genetic conditions not to do with the eyes) are TNS and CL, that can be done by Optigen or http://www.bccnsw.com/dnatesting.html . And obviously hip scoring, the xrays taken by your vet and sent to the BVA for scoring.

Thanks -there is an optigen clinic on 02-03-13 (no blood draw) so will get into vets this week - think ill get all 4 DNA tests done (CAE/CH, CL, TNS + rcd2-PRA) as want to stud him in the future if he achieves anything and has good hips!!!
