One of my ponies came in this morning with the fattest eye I’ve ever seen. Poor little chap has an ulcer so i gave him a sachet of Bute this morning and the vet has topped him up with an IV dose.

Q is a friend just asked what causes a corneal ulcer and although I didn’t talk to the vet about that I believe it’s usually a scratch or trauma to the eye surface. She then pointed out that I should be able to claim on my insurance which is accidental external injury only (pony is 30j
I suspect it won’t be worth it really, I think my excess is £150 but have no idea what Sunday emergency call out costs and follow up apts with my own vet.

Would a eye ulcer count as external injury?

I'd claim, partly because if it's on the pony's vet records, it has to be declared if futher treatment is needed and the eye will be excluded in future regardless of whether you claimed or not.
Eyes are funny things with the potential for turning out to be more troublesome than originally thought to be.

This is what I figured and after last years thorn in eye (other pony) issue which racked up a biggish bill quickly I took out the cover.
It hadn’t occurred to me that an ulcer might class as injury.
