Sorry just had to post this - any of you who have horses with bruises, abscesses etc that require poulticing, protecting etc etc, had to put a post about a product some people had recommended on this forum.
My horse has been lame for about three weeks with suspected bruising and whilst I am a great fan of the nappies and gaffa tape concept, it will not stay on in this weather. Last week there was a post on here about a protective boot called the Hoofeeze boot, so I ordered one to see if it was any good... Oh my goodness its fantastic! It is sooooo easy to put on compaired to the Equiboot, just pull it on and it secures with velcro straps. Don't wish to sould like an advert but seriously has made my life sooo much easier and my boy can go out instead of being on box rest. Am saving a fortune on nappies and tape and it's really well made.

Sorry to waffle on but really am impressedand thought it may help others too!

I havent heard of that one, I will have to check it out.
I have been using a Davis boot on one of mine, and it is brilliant, but quite a challenge to get on and off!

Just out of interest, are you using anything to help with the bruising? When my farrier put the shoe back on, he suggested I give Arnica tablets, not the gel, to help with the bruising, and use Eucalyptus oil to harden up the sole. I may have to put a post about that, as I cant find a stockist, or a guide on doseage!

Off to check out your Hoofeeze boot....

just had to agree - they're the best product EVER (well probably)! my horse has taken a big chunk off his hoof wall and has to have some sort of boot on 24 hours to keep it clean since it's quite deep. i was using an old mac but was very clumpy and started rubbing - my hoofeeze boot has saved the day! I have a very happy comfy horse now, i think could even ride in them! And they NEVER come off even though they don't seem to be on tightly.

that's really interesting about the arnica/eucaplyptus. My crazy horse is too scared of the farrier to have shoes back on again so is gunna have to be barefoot from now on - i was gunan go and get some keratex for his feet but would prefer to use something nice and natural if eucalyptus works too! let me know if you find anything about it please, i'll keep an eye out too!
thanks

The Hoofeeze boot is great but when my boy had it on in the field it was ripped apart frm the rubber bit. They replaced it but it happened again, so either he is very heavy footed or they are not that brilliant for out in the field. Fantastic boot for ease of use and in the stable though, can't fault it.
