Fabulously worded advert (rolling my eyes here!)

You're right...maybe it's chat speak??

Sorry, couldnt resist. Looks more like laziness tbh.

If I was writing in a foreign language, I would simply take more time, and probably be more careful, with checks.

agree with this but also being a Teacher think English is a second language- EAL perhaps.

To be honest it looks like a large majority of posts I see on FB sites. Seems to be a 'fashion' now to write like that.

Agree, my French is far from fluent, and I always check spelling before posting/ writing anything. My grammar might be atrocious, but any spelling errors would be limited to typos/transposition of letters.

Yes, that's what I thought. A bit annoying but I guess it's just another one of those fashions. I do wonder if it will remain as a permanent fixture in written communication - is it another example of modern technology impacting the evolution of language, or will it fade away again?

I've had a go at translating - tell me if I'm in the ballpark:

Nice 15 hand ride and drive got bone and fever 2 diy 4 " she all ways dus what u ask of her she can be ride by most age of people she been ride more lately ant been in a cart 2 mouth or so but hock her up and she of good out on big road she would tack u down the m25 lol this pony cums with her tack which is all in good nick !! Nice 15hh ride and drive. Has bone and feather to die for. She always does what you ask of her. She can be ridden by people of all ages. She has been ridden more lately and hasn't been driven for about 2 months. However, hook her up as she is good on the roads and would even take you down the M25. The pony comes with tack, all in good condition. She is for sale only due to lack of time and she needs an owner who can give her the time. She'll also take you places in the show ring.

Phew, am I down wiv da kids?

To some people that is the correct spelling!

Bad grammar and spelling really annoy me!

It may be wrong to judge but I see this person as a rough chav that has no clue!

Hey, guess what *whispers* there are still people out there that cannot read or write....

How people can openly speak ill of people they know nothing off, Really grinds my goat!

It certainly worked to get attention as I would guess this advert has now been seen by many more people than would have normally seen it.

There is free education in the UK for all. There is no excuse other than sheer laziness.
by the way you should have typed, "know nothing of" not "know nothing off"

People will always judge by fist impressions and if people want to be judged as having the mental accumen of a 6 year old child then they can have at it but they shouldnt complain when people think they are thick as 2 short planks!

With todays technology of spell checkers, grammar checkers and even voice recognition software that types as you speak, it is easier than ever to at least make your writing legible!

There is a time and a place for the language posted in the advert and that is confined to txt messeges between close friends (and even then my friends would be horrified!) it is not appropriate language to use in an advert where people are not only going to spend a sizable amount on the purchase but they will be judging your knowlege and honesty, then using that judgment to assess the risk to thier personal safety when they ride that horse. If the seller cant be bothered to make an effort to make thier advert legible then surely it is doubtful that they would also bother to tell the truth about the horse they are advertising.

You must be from another planet. One where spell checkers are not available. All children diligently attend school and come out literate ( because the education system is perfect!) and, of course, no adult could possibly be unable to read and write.

Actually I was pointing out that spell checkers are available to anyone who has a computer. If they are posting on the internet they have access to a computer. Whilst spell checkers are not perfect and can get the wrong words occasionally at least it is legible and most people could read it and understand it

Yes a lack of basic education is in my opinion generally through laziness either of the child or the parent.

I am dyslexic, badly so. Aged 13 I was told (by a teacher in a mainstream school) that I had best marry well as I'd never pass my GCSE's and never amount to anything.
I moved school to one specialising in dyslexia, I not only got straight A's in my GCSE's, I got straight A's in my A levels and then went on to university where I studied Engineering and I made something of myself through sheer hard work and the use of basic tools such as the spell checker!

My class mates have all also gone on to good careers, even the boy that came to the school at 16yrs old unable to read or even write his own name (he is now a self made millionaire with a chain of gyms in his portfolio).

Dyslexia is not the only condition which affects reading and writing. My brother is severely deaf, which has potentially in turn, caused his dyslexia. He struggles to comprehend the most basic English, and as much as spell check is useful, he would not necessarily be able to differentiate between the different auto correct words offered to him (mainly due to the fact he cannot hear all words like we would and only hears them and sounds and tones). The ad originally posted could be something that he would put together, although he would try and correct all content and would ask for a second opinion from a family member.

That said, I do not excuse ignorance to learn or to speak and write in a way that at least makes sense. There is no way people would think that you is spelt 'u' for example. There are people with real conditions who genuinely need support, it makes me angry when fully abled people make excuses!

ETA- Disgusted by the level of support offered by some schools, including those labelled as 'specialist'. Those teachers and governers should hang their heads in absolute shame. Glad to see some offer the right help, especially Conniegirl :)

Sad thread. Some people do not have literate parents and did not go to mainstream school for various reasons. Yes we have a free education system but many children, fortunately a minority, did not get the chance to use it.

You could also say that some people write the same way as they speak so we need to rid the world of accent and should all speak the Queens English. My OH is dyslexic and doesn't write like that either but he does spell phonetically which with an accent can be quite funny
