It took me about 3 years to truly appreciate Chloe for what she is, not what she looks like, and tbh I still think she's ugly.
She makes up for it in other ways though, and I love her to bits! Still, I'd never have bought her myself...
My other girl is plain rather than ugly, but again makes up for it with her personality and ability. She gets overlooked a lot by everyone else on our yard, as there are a lot of flashy, beautiful horses there.
I've had the 'good looking' horses in the past, and this time wanted something quieter and easier to handle, which meant avoiding all the TB's and TB crosses. I still love 'em though, from a distance!
It was one my prime concerns to me when I was horse shopping last year - the horse had to be quality and well put together, which by default means that you should be going to see a 'good looking' animal.......
I love a nicely marked horse- i.e the facial markings.
Solo has a ? shaped stripe, which makes him look really pretty, and Red has right plain head which doesn't look anything special, but, as FMM says, when you put differant tack on they look differant.
Red looks stunning in his smart bridle- nice and wide leather, with a broad browband and noseband.

I agree - a horse with ideal, or near to ideal, conformation should by default be pleasing to the eye.
B is an exceptionally pretty little horse, to the point where both horsey and non-horsey people passing by in a car have stopped and pulled over to tell me how gorgeous she is
She is, however, a little devil.
She doesn't by any means have perfect conformation but she is well proportioned, which I think is the main thing. A little pony face with big eyes and big jet-intake nostrils helps on the cuteness factor with B -rolleyes-
Has anyone ever used those proportion diagrams on a photo of their horse? Y'know, where you draw triangles and lines and things on them and they should all match up? Am trying to find an example on google and failing, but most modern horse books have an example.
i bought a stunning horse 2 and a half years ago and paid a bit more out for her, and what a lod of trouble she was (putting it nice!).
i have now owned my roman nose tb for 2 years who i bought as cheap as chips. He is amazingly well manered, nicly schooled and a decent jump. He does everything i ask of and competes in all the pony club teams.
However i regularly get funny looks of people at events!!
