Over the last 3 years my horse has developed hard lumpy area on his face. The vet says it is a varicose vein, but I have never seen anything like this before and I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to prevent it growing any further. It doesn't seem to affect my horse in any way, he is still eating and drinking well. He is retired so doesn't wear a bridle. Any ideas or experience of this would be very welcome.

Many thanks

My TB mare has a pretty big one on her cheek, its never caused her any problems even when she was in work. Have never really tried to do anything about it as it doesn't appear to bother her in any way. People say it looks odd but I forget its there nowadays.

thank for your reply that is very reassuring its just that my vet would not do a routine teeth check in case it made the lump react or it hurt him

Now I have admitted it may be a tumor/cancer and you may all have been too nice to say has any body any further thoughts on this
Thanks

My horse has one on his side. It has never caused any problems even though its under his saddle flap. It does go more prominant when hes a fatty, like now :o. I forget its even there

Sorry folks !!
I am putting this back at the top cos I would like SAM22 to look at the pictures cos she has admitted yo being a vet.Any comments?

Facial varicose veins
Thought I would let the 200 people who looked at my boys pictures that I had to have him put to sleep last november, unrelated to his face but the vet confirmed it was not cancer it was a huge mass of fat and gristle which was also on the inside of his cheek so god knows how how he carried on eating but sure enough it would have interfered sooner so the outcome would have been the same.
