The above sounds to me just like a made up name for losing young puppies due to ill health.

Anybody know anything about it?

Cheers

fading puppy syndrome is weird and i dont think anyone knows what causes it. It is just the term given to a seemingly healthy puppy when it starts to 'fade' and eventually die. Dont think there is a particular reason or cause and if its happened to you, dont blame yourself. Im not sure if they always die though and if you've had one die, get the rest to the vet asap as there may be somethin the vet can do.

My JRs litter went down with this, two died, two survived and Ozzie (my JR) never got sick, he just kept feeding as the others fitted and die around him.

Thanks for the replies and for the concern.

It hasn't happened to me but somebody mentioned it and it just sounded a bit 'made-up' to me. However that probably has more to do with what else they were talking about.

Cheers.

it's not made up at all - happens to puppies and kittens. in kittens it can be due to the wrong blood types being bred together for example. it certainly is a real problem.

Right thank you very much

That was interesting about the kittens.

I guess I am just very cycnical when I hear the word syndrome. To me it implies we don't know what is causing it so we will call it syndrome for now (currently suffer from two 'syndromes' myself).

I had trouble with this with the best bitch I ever owned.First litter two pups no trouble then She started losing pups no matter what I did (Tried hand rearing them also)
I was told to get her jabbed 8 weeks before the litter was due but that didn't work.
It was heart breaking because the pups were all born fit and healthy looking.
The last litter I tried was put on a friends Yorkie that had just lost her litter (Attacked by a dog and abhorted)Two out of three survived so it may have been something with the pup being allergic to its mothers milk.
The bitch was on breeding terms and I was supposed to return three pups but the breeder let me keep the last litter. One pup went to friends of the Yorkies owner and lived to a ripe old age very spoilt.
I did advertise the other pup but when it came to selling her changed my mind. She was only pet quality, completely wrong but lovely nature so she stayed all of her seventeen years

Her name was Frantic Freda (Named after the breeder of her dam and the fact that you could never keep her still!)

latest research shows a link between FPS and the canine herpes virus - very sad and very much a real problem ( not made up !)
