Failed vetting

I thought I'd found just the horse for me, but today it failed vetting (only 2 stage). Gutted.

I can't risk having a horse uninsured and I know I'd now have problems insuring for vets' fees as there are lameness issues.... so it's back to square one.

This horse-buying lark is ups and downs isn't it!

I know, it is disappointing when they fail a vetting. Try to look on the bright side- much better to find out now than in a few months when you're attached to the horse. I had one fail a vetting a few years back. I'd stupidly been out and bought rugs and a bridle for him, which had to be returned. I wondered if I'd tempted fate by going shopping before he was vetted- haven't done this since!

My head tells me I'm glad I had the vetting done - as you say, better to know now than months down the line... my heart tells me different.

I hadn't gone and bought any tack, but I'd made the mistake of telling my daughters - who like her and are also gutted. Ah well onwards with the horse hunt!

There will be a reason, there is a horse round the corner that is your perfect partner. Believe me there is a reason for everything, I have just had to retire my fourth horse in 18 months, the other three all had to be PTS.
I would much rather have not gone through that heartache. Despite all of that, a very special horse has found her way into my life, while I miss all mine like mad, I wouln;t have met her if the worst hadn't happened with them.

Lauren, she failed mostly on lameness after flexion. There were other lesser points which on their own probably won't have meant failing, but it was mostly the lameness. Vet said he advised not to buy.

One of mine failed the third section but passed the two stage. Bought him anyway and never had a days lameness.

What is it that you are looking for? There may be people on here that may know of something suitable

Mmm it might be worth doing that, thank you Lauren. This was only two stage and vet said he could only advise me not to buy, he was concerned about the lameness.

If I'm really sensible, what I'm going for is something 14.2 or under that's safe and sensible without being a plod, that is good on the ground round children (I have 2). My thinking is that in time they could grow in to it (they ahve an 11.2) and at that stage I'd get something bigger - that way we can keep it in the family for a very long time. I'm 11 stone and a bit and although I've got long legs, I don't mind what I look like and am quite happy on a pony that will carry my weight.

This horse was a bit bigger but ticked all my boxes and has good provenance. But being really practical I can't risk it as I don't want to be in a position in some future date, having to make a decision about whether I can spend x thousand on vets' fees to sort lameness problems out that I can't insure for. And I obviously can't insure her now as I know she has pre-existing problems.
