Fair Weather Riders

don't mind rain or cold, but wind puts me off - my lad can be pretty dangerous when everything's blowing around, i'll lunge him but rather not ride, not to mention we keep them on a farm, so there's always black liner blowing around.

Ive ridden out in the rain every morning before work, and also hacked out this morning in icy rain and wind

My horse needs to get back to fitness, and I alays think the thought of doing it is actually worse than doing it!! He is also turned out today (by his own choice!!)

If I am up for it then I do ride in all weather, in fact the only thing that has ever made me stop was out hacking last winter, we got battered by hail stones!!!!!!
But today I am struggling for energy so I wont be riding. My horses are not really bothered by it, but I think they prefer to stay in and dry if it is as foul as today! (Besides 2 are TB's and they will melt in the rain!

I ride as much as I can. In storms I tend to leave it till the lightning is in the nxt door field, then go it. I only don't ride if the floor is frozen.

During the winter I can only ride at weekends so like to make the most of them and the weather hasn't stopped me yet, even today! Had a lovely hack, although my face got very cold and found out that my chaps and coat have developed leaks since last winter!!

Ditto!
Wish I had waterproof jods though - my new toggi gloves were great, my hands stayed snug!

Totally agree, Oldmare. MY old mare is actually pretty good - she won't try to duck sideways, just ploughs on into the wind, but she clearly hates it, and so do I. Rode in high wind earlier in week and realised a car was following me - couldn't hear it, and don't know how long it had been there! Fortunately a patient local.

Yay! Just got home after getting to ride one of mine

All managed to get on the walker too, thankfully the rain held off for the past 2 hours

Winds getting up now tho

I'm a fair weather rider - getting soaked/blown off the side isn't my idea of fun

. Saying that I did ride in the sleet today because its been ages since I've been up during the light and had time to ride!

I'll ride in the rain, and in the cold with a quarter-rug on. But I won't hack out in windy weather as my youngster is spooky enough even on a calm day! Also we have to do a fair bit of riding on the roads, and I don't like not being able to hear traffic approaching.

I have to admit to being a bit of a fair weather rider these days (getting old), never use to be. Saying that thanks to TwigBen's encouragement I did ride today in the school, and it was very windy and wet!

i went out in the awful weather today, i refuse to be a fair weather rider, i only get to ride at weekends in winter, so i make myself go even if it isnt quite as nice

ditto !!

I am a terrible fair weather rider, but I dont mind - I love sitting at the window watching people getting blown around on their horses - I then turn to my cup of tea and my book and sigh!
Evil aren't I?!

Def not a fair weather rider - i will go out in all weathers - as long as its safe to do so - wind, rain, etc etc........Today was a corker - had a lesson in a wind tunnel with the rain lashing at very odd angles!!!!

Jobo - And well done to you for doing so - Bodey went soooooo well, you would have thought it was sunny the way he was working for you - he didnt evade at all!!

I share ahorse, so if it's my day to ride and weather is awful I still go for it, otherwise don't ride for another week. And if you wear the right clothing - and the horse - it's actually quite nice being out in the elements. All the nicer when you get home to a nice warm house

I only ride if both Merlin and I will enjoy it, which means not very often at the moment... He lives out 24/7 so is not in need of extra exercise unless I want to compete, which I dont

I see no merits at all in making us both cold, wet and miserable.... at least I can go home and get warm, he has to go out in the field again and I would hate to think of him trying to get warm and dry again.

I don't ride when it is high winds and rain - sod that for a game of soldiers, it is not enjoyable for me or my horse! It is peeing down here ATM, I won't ride in this, in fact I haven't even ventured out of the house yet!

Couldnt have put it better myself! Particually as I dont have my own horse at the mo, no way im going out getting soaked to exercise someone elses horse!
