Fairfax Performance Girth.............opinions please!

Hi all,

Can I ask your opinions on the Fairfax girth please? I need to get a new girth for my PRE stallion and I'm especially interested in this one, due to it's claims over helping forelimb action (as my boy is lazy in front).

Did you notice a change? any other girths that do the same job, but less money? (still shocked at Fairfax girth's £240 price tag!).

Definatly makes a difference to J my TB he's very big moving and the saddles tend to shift forwards unless you use a point strap on the saddle .
I felt he felt less extravagant with the forelegs with the point strap but he persistently shifted the saddle enough forwards without to bother me .
The Fairfax girth makes a definate difference to the saddle with it we have been able to dispense with the point strap so that's great.

Two warnings make sure you get the right one for your horses chest width they do two one for narrow between the foreleg horses and one for wider
I tried the Fairfax on tats who is narrow and he hated it I did not realise until I maintained this the saddler that there where two types .
I ordered the same length as the girth I had ,I think two inches bigger would have been better .
I have heard and read the comment you need to upsize from other people too.
When I need another short girth I will cetainly get the Fairfax but can't Jusify replaceing the girths I have with them.
My saddler has been downto fairfax and done the day where Fairfax take them through the thinking behind it , perhaps try to find a saddler near you who has to talk you through it before you part with what is a ridiculous price for a girth.

I really do love their shape and the idea of them but I can't quite come to terms with the price. However, I am yet to find another one on the market that is as nicely shaped so I might just have to cough up!!!!
 
Love mine and wouldn't use anything else now. Also sold the ridiculous amount of other girths accumulated over the years in order to pay for it :-)

Has made my stroppy TB much happier to be tacked up and also she is much more free in her shoulders now.

Several liveries called me a muppet (or possibly worse) when I first bought mine but 2 of them have subsequently tried it and bought their own!

Ah interesting thank you. I think he will need the normal width as he is very chunky......this is him:



Quite wide between his legs I think?

I'm hoping it does this to my boy as he is a bit sloppy in front but such a huge boy he COULD be amazing moving.
 
CS is def looser over the back, quicker in his fairfax (was in a shaped, elasticated, sheepskin lined one before).

TBH unless the horse is VERY narrow, the normal gauge should be fine-NMT's Fig is 15hh and delicate/narrow like a show pony and is in the standard width.

CS is also in the standard width.

Yeah no chance my boy will be in a narrow, he is chunky!
 
What I was getting at Spanish Neddy is to try and find out what his usual gait is without any girth & then to see what it is like with a girth to note if there is any difference between natural gait and gait while wearing a girth

then if you do try a fairfax you can tell if it really does make a difference for him or not

Not tried it myself but my saddler (who really speaks his mind so not just trying to sell me one!) raves about them. He's taken one apart to see how they're made and says the other cheaper makes don't come close so there's no cheaper alternative unfortunately.

Ah yes sorry. That will be hard as he is so lazy on the lunge and better riding.
 
I got the mikamar le tixerant girth for my friesian as a normal girth meant your risking broken toes when being girthed up…

Solved that and she's great now :)
