Has anyone ever used a fairfax saddle? What do you think of them?

I had a saddler out yesterday who recommended the fairfax high wither dressage for my horse. Apparently they are very adjustable and good quality.
He priced it at £899 which I thought was a little high considering something like kent & master comes in at under £700

Happy to pay if it is worth it.

I almost had one... but they only do a GP and I needed a jump.

It seemed really nice and the difference in price is apparently due to a higher leather quality and prolite in the panels.

My saddler is currently president of the Master Saddlers Association and loves them, so that's a good enough endorsement for me!

I've gone for the Kent & Masters jump saddle.

I think they are an offshoot of Kent and Masters - I think it's owner/run by the wife of the Kent and Masters owner. Who are an off-shoot of thorowgood.

If so I'd image they are the exact same design (Kent and Master saddles are just leather thorowgood saddles) but possibly better quality. They certainly look exactly the same as thorowgoods and K&M saddles!

Maybe you could go for a K&M saddle instead? They do the highwither version. Or even, if moneys tight, the thorowgood version.

No definitely don't want another synthetic the one I currently have is wintec vsd and horrendous.

I like the fairfax, haven't seen a kent & master in the flesh.
That's interesting though I had no idea they were part of the same company.

If both are adjustable then what is the extra money for...the prolite panels?

Yep, wintecs are horrible!

But before dismissing synthetics totally, try and get a look at the thorowgood T6 saddle. It's made from 'synthetic leather' (but not like wintecs) and you have to look closely to tell it's not leather. It even feels like leather! And half the price of a fairfax saddle.

Have had a look between the K&M and Fairfax saddles the only difference seems to be the prolite and the quality of leather. A qualified saddle might be able to tell you otherwise. Not sure why Thorowgood stopped using the prolite panels - the Griffins (the more expensive version in their original range) used to have prolite panels.

Correct, plus a little more detailing with the stitching.

They are fantastic saddles, and I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Good news then, I am going to go for it as I want if for xmas.

It was very comfy and did seem like a lovely saddle but seeing that I have only ever had synthetic I didn't really trust my judgement.

I will definately look into Kent and master in future when I can afford a jumping saddle. Or even thorowgood.

Thanks for the advice

I have a Fairfax HW adjustable 18" GP for sale if you are interested, it is in excellent condition, I no longer have the horse it was for. It has the drop panel as well, is with my saddler to sell atm but I can get pics
