I have never known a vet to check a passport before doing a vaccination and scan the horse to see if the microchip matches and I have also never known a vet to scan a horse when vetting to see if the horse being vetted matches the passport.
Doesn't inspire much confidence does it?! Especially as we have now lost our national database.
I know of a vet that always checks the passports and scans the chips and makes sure they match what it is supposed to be when he does a vetting.
It is far to easy to get a replacement passport.
I know someone who bought a 17 year old gelding who we found out had been past from pillar to post and his passport had no information of past owners in it, it only had the owner in it that passported him and he was still down as a stallion. He had been a really good well known section D stallion when he was younger. His passport has never been kept upto date and i wouldn't be surprised to find that someone has another one for him somewhere with his medical history in it as his is empty until my friend bought him.
