Basically, these three seem the best for the bigger horse. He's a big IDxWBxTB and I really struggle with rugs for him. I'm after a LW stable and a LW turnout. He has huge shoulders and is very wide chested. Also need something that's a deep cut as don't like him looking like he's wearing a mini dress! (like masta!). Any opinions on the XL Horseware's would be good too! Tempted as they look a deep cut but worry will still be too tight on chest!

Thankyou!

I've got all of the above for my IDxTB (17hh).

My favourite is the Fal-Pro - lovely rug and fits really well but it's a 360g so he only ever wears it very occasionally. I've just bought a PE 80g from Ebay, nearly new and an absolute bargain. Fits really nicely. He seems to be between a 6ft9 and 7ft in most rugs but the 6ft9 in PE is perfect. He should start wearing it this weekend once he's been clipped. Makes a change to have a rug for him that doesn't look like a miniskirt!

I also have a JHL rug (the people who make Mark Todd, I believe) and like it. I've had MT for other horses in the past and don't really like them - over priced and don't last - but the JHL is great and also a good price. Nice around the chest and neck covers are great because they're roomy and long instead of ending up looking like a half neck rug. No opinion on the XL Horseware but I do have a HW Amigo for him and am not v keen, funny shape and doesn't really suit him.

I don't have experience of the others but I love the PE rugs! Very deep cut and great for deep, broad cheat & shoulders. The buster trio is great...pricey but well worth it! They don't come up for sale second hand very often so I'm well pleased that I've found one for £70 today :)

My ID x TB has a JHL one which is a great fit and he has just got a PE one, which I'm very impressed with too :)

Mark Todd used to fit him well - but as he has grown they have started to be too small on the shoulders.

Okay, so it's between the fal or PE! I definitely want a LW no fill for turnout and about 100g stable rug. He's put on a bit of extra weight over the summer, so I don't want him heavily rugged!

I heard fal aren't as good as they used to be, anyone got a new fal? He used to be okay in Weatherbeeta with the gussets but I tried to put a LW on him last night and it wouldn't even stretch across his chest! Don't fancy the chest expanders!!

Thanks for your replies everyone! No time to quote everyone personally as got a baby toddling about around me, getting up to mischief! Really hoping to get rugs on order today!!

Just been looking at the JHL rugs, are they pretty roomy in the chest and shoulder department? Also my boy takes between a 6"9 and a 7", size wise do they come up big or a bit on the small size? I like the fact they're darted!

Go for the 7ft then - I bought a 6ft9 and wish I'd gone for the 7ft in JHL. Think I bought a Medium neck cover.

I've just ordered a PE 70x , but my boy is only 15.3hh but i'm hoping it'll fit round the shoulders better than his horseware ones , but what i was going to mention is that PE do a 40g ( as you know ) but at least you've got the option to pop a liner under even the 100g one would give a bit extra warmth without over-doing it and you can put the liner in the wash .
