I am looking into buying another rug for winter (boo hoo) and the Fal rugs have been recommended to me. I've been looking around on the internet and didnt realise just how many different styles there are! Rocky doesn't have very wide shoulders so i'm not sure how these rugs would fit as they dont seem to be adjustable at the front from pics ive seen online.
I'm looking for a heavier weight one with detachable neck so
1) does anyone else have these rugs and would recommend? and
2) which of the styles would you recommend?
3) any good websites that sell them?

Many thanks, Fiona x

I just got rid of a fal as it didn't fit my rather narrow girly across the front. There is a site called allthebestrugs.com (or something similar) that specialises in Fal rugs. You could possibly get them cheaper if you have a hunt about though - equestrian clearance have some too.

i got my girl indoor fal last xmas, with the intention of i being huge so i could create layers when necessary. i found they come up big around the shoulder, but perhaps a little upright.i ended p sticking to 5'9 as per my other rugs but it was MUCH bigger.

I have got a wardrobe of Fal Bulldogs in all weights! I love them for fit on my horses, which are Irish Sports Horses, so average build. I find they are great for light rain and changeable conditions as they are breathable. However I have a Rambo which I find is more waterproof than the Fals in heavy rain.

If I was starting my rug wardrobe again I would go for Rambo.

We use the dual purpose silver lined Viking FAL rugs, with detachable hoods. Could not recommend them highly enough. They never slip, rub or leak and are highly breathable. Our horses are fairly substantial though, not sure how the fit would work on less chunky horses.

After years of rug buying and using the only rugs I now buy are Fals - for all my horses. I have 4 different horses all different shapes one narrow - one extremely wide and two medium. The Fal rugs fit all and I have never had one rub. I have tried Rambos and teh wig plus rubberd badly across teh chest as just no room. The weatherbeetas were just far too narrow and the darts were in teh wrong place so rubbed. For one of the horses which usually wore a 6ft 9 in all Fals i had to buy a 7ft 6 in a weatherbeeta to get anywhere near a fit and it was hopeless. My Fals range in age from 2 - 8 years old. All turnouts are still waterproof, no rubs, an no slips. I have light, medium and heavy weight rugs for both turnout and stable, for all four horses. I love them!!!

a couple of people at the yard have Fal's. i just want to make sure i buy the best for him, as they are expensive and i dont wanna get it wrong. plus the masta i had on him last winter rubbed him a little and wasnt great in extreme weather. in all the other rugs i have he is a 6"3 (masta and some others) ... Do you think he will come up the same size in the Fal?

i like the look of the chieftain, viking or cavalier... mmm decisions decisions....!!

Another vote for FALS especially since these are one of the few European made rugs about now, even Rambo are being made in Asia now as their Amigo range has always been. You can tell the difference in quality straight away which is sad as I loved Rambo's.

FALs here too.......mine are sometimes not on the horse bought for, ie a 6'6'' on a 6'3'' horse, but they still do the job.
I'll never use another brand whilst I can get them.

echo this, also use the Bulldog for a medium weight and one of mine has the Goliath which is great if it gets really cold. Mine are also quite chunky through their shoulders, I have found that Rambo fit the tb type better....
