Falcon saddles

I have a Falcon saddle that I am trying to identify, how does one tell if it is a Falcon or a Jefferies saddle? Is there anyone who can identify a saddle from the serial number?….Help!

Ring Jeffries, they make Falcon don’t they?

That’s what I’m not sure about. When I google the companies it’s not very clear. It’s probably going to be a good starting point though.

I have a Jeffries Falcon F 1 saddle. I rang Jeffries and told them its number. They told me its original size etc and when it was made.

I bought a Jeffries Falcon Hawk event saddle, from memory it had Jeffrries Falcon Hawk printed on the girth guards, or possibly just Falcon Hawk but it was definitely made by Jeffries. It was a lovely saddle.

I used to have a Jeffries Falcon Hawk event too, one is maker, the other is the model.

Yes. Jeffries have been making the model Falcon for more years than I can remember

A friend has one of these. I believe that the falcon is the model and Jeffries is the maker.

Ah I see, I thought that Falcon was a separate company that was bought out by Jefferies who kept the name going.

I sold the saddle about 14 years ago so definitely not a new thing!

I bought a Falcon Hawk Event for £250 in 1982 so they have most definitely been around for a long time.

I had a Falcon saddle too - the little red logo on the saddle had a hawk on it if I remember rightly.

From what I’ve seen online if the tag is red it is a Jefferies made saddle and if it’s black it is a Falcon (made before being taken over by Jefferies)

Can beat you, at least for price! Bought a Hawk Event from a saddlery stall at Beeston market for £50! I kid you not and it was brilliant; very few horses it didn't fit and so so comfortable especially when I did miles of road work with the pointers. I still have it too.

The original ones were lovely and they did fit anything. Mine was black on my dun horse and very chic for the 80’s especially when I took him to Germany and all they had were old fashioned Stubbens. Sadly I sold it with said horse so I doubt it exists any longer but I do have an immaculate 10 year old brown version which fits neither of my horses and sits gathering dust in my sitting room. I am loathed to sell it and am ever hopeful DP will slim down enough so I can use it again.

Okay, a bit more information for you all.

Years ago, Falcon Saddlery was owned by Don Burnell. He made the Falcon Hawk saddle with a black head nail.

In later years, when Jefferies acquired the Falcon brand, they changed the head nails to red.

This info is from a very good friend who is a retired saddle maker and used to work for them.
