Falling into trot: How to prevent it?

Pony sometimes falls into trot (canter to trot transition) and have had a few dressage comments saying so.

I guess he does it because he falls on his forehand in canter first?

I've been trying to prevent it but am having difficultly!

Any specific things I can try or is it a strength issue that will improve in time?

half-halt him that way rather then falling and running into the transition he will lift up into the down ward transition. half-halt before the transition to pick him up off the forehand and collect him up to prepare for the transition hope this helps
