Falling off at walk...

Yep, was walking along chatting away when my horse tripped and I did an amazing saumersault over his head...not even sure how I got the momentum?!

He was fine, but I managed to land knee first (??) on a pointy stone so have a bit of a bruise!

Please tell me your stories of falling off at walk so I don't feel quite so useless! :D

How about falling off at a stand still in front of about 20 young marines? Forgot to even put girth on never mind do it up, mounted from the big block all fine. Horse walked forward a couple steps away from block all good. I asked him to stop, turned in saddle to chat to my friend whilst she was mounting and saddle slipped right off and me with it! I could have died of embarrassment ;)

Here is my story - walking across the field to start a xc lesson, horse tripped over rabbit hole in walk, I fell off, horse was lame: all back home several hours before planned!!!

I fell off at the end of lesson once, at a standstill, didn't realise just how dead my legs were until I tried to get off and failed miserably to lift my right leg high enough, caught it on the cantle and landed smack on my backside on the concrete, much to the amusement of my instructor and the yard owner :)

Many years ago, as a newly qualified Instructor I failed to describe the Full Scissor exercise adequately, so needed to demonstrate. I vaulted nimbly onto the smallest pony (can't do that now....!), flung myself enthusiastically into the twist, misjudged the width of small pony, and found myself flat on my back the floor! I don't think my cover of 'So who spotted the deliberate mistake?' worked either!

Even worse than falling off at a walk, I have managed to fall of a mini shetland twice, and my feet can touch the floor. The first time I was grazing him in hand and he went between my legs and trotted off with me facing backwards and slowly falling over his tail. The second time he rushed out through the gate while I was getting another pony out and cantered off with me facing backwards. This time I rememebered to put my feet on the floor, pony disapeared but my momentum still caused me to fall. Luckily no one saw me either time.

So my mare was having issues standing still to mount from a block, she would stand there fine, then turn her hind out as I went to out my foot in the stirrup, so we did loads of practising (she is fine now) one day she stood perfectly! I was so chuffed that I lept onto the saddle with such enthusiasm that I went straight over the other side of the saddle with a mini somersault, foot still in stirrup so took the saddle with me and I was doing the splits on the floor! In front of the whole yard, and the mare just looked at me and appeared to roll her eyes! Not even at a walk!

" shall I leg you up?" Has always been a phrase I hated... I always get the bounce wrong and go up like a sack of spanners... But the only time I ever fell of my 18hh dwb was when a rather famous dressage instructor decided to give me a leg up... And I promptly missed the saddle and landed on my bum on the floor on the other side... Very ugly. I went and found the mounting block and have never accepted a leg up since

I fell off at walk then broke my leg whilst on the ground! How, well I slipped over his shoulder after a spook, landing sat down basically fine but kept hold of the reins, he stepped back and my leg was more under me than I realised so I bent my leg back even further and caused a twist fracture to the fibula and to a couple of ankle bones. I felt it snap!
