falling off...does it bother you?

Don't mind falling off.

Its the hitting the floor that bothers me......

Falling off when it is just one of those things, doesnt bother me. If it is because my horse is repeatedly TRYING to get me off, I would be more bothered

even though i haven't fallen off in a while, the horses i ride now are either big ponies or little horses, so i've got into the mentality that 'it's not far to fall!' i used to feel very pressured when i had my old ony as he was used in the riding school and was a git-refused to go in an outline, bucked every time you smacked him and ducked out at jumps, but he and I really clicked and (without sounding big headed) he went really well for me. it was a busy yard so there were always people about, watching me ride and offering to do jumps, esp at shows and i was terrified that he was going to be naughty and deck me!

sometimes it can be funny, you know those comedy falls! I was on a friends arab many years ago that started bucking and with each buck i got further along its neck til i was literally sat on its ears, then just kind of slithered down over its face!!lol! and vice versa on my pony years ago decided to try that sliding off over its bum trick and it didnt go down well and i ended up bouncing backwards and plopped off on my bum behind him!lol!! Over the last few years though iv literally only fallen off once and he's only 14.2 so it wouldnt be that bad - plus i know him inside out quite hard for him to take me by surprise! however i had a 17.2 very unpredictable 4yr old to ride for a while and i was determined not to fall off - the thought was terrifying when you're that high up!!!!

It hasn't happened for a while but when it does it seems to be worse falls than they used to ! I still get back on !

My little sis is 10 and she is on the count down from 100 - the old saying your not a proper rider until you have fallen off 100 times ! I have lost count how many times I have fallen off but it's not 100 yet lol

Erm, not really actually. But only when I'm riding mine. I've come off 3 times since I've her (a year) and sort of decided that it's not too far to the ground (15.1hh) so I don't mind that much. The only time I do mind is when we're hacking out, as I worry she'll nick off while I'm on the ground!

Depends on the fall and why I'm falling. If its because my dozy horse has left a leg on an xc fence as he's trying to neigh to his mate around the course, and I trickle off the side, then I'm annoyed, but not bothered by the fall.

If a nappy horse rears. rears, bucks, rears then bucks again to get me off, yes it does bother me! But I would still likely get back on, just for two mins so the horse hasn't 'won'.

I remember counting the falls I had off my second pony - nine in 3 years, off my first horse (moved onto from 2nd pony) I had nine falls in the first two months - all due to broncing and napping - the rearing was learnt later in his career

Not really. When I first got Dylan I fell off constantly; it took me a while to figure out that just because he was almost galloping on the approach to a jump, it didn't mean he'd actually leave the ground when he got to it - cue lots of me flying over his head! Before that it bothered me quite a bit though. I'm so used to him now that it's only really unexpected things that get me off - my last fall was because he put his foot down a hole and decked both of us ... he was very upset because he thought he'd done something wrong (he ran off and stuck his head under my friend's arm), but I found it quite funny.

That could just be me, though. The worst injury I've had was a broken foot because he pecked after jumping a ditch. My worst fall - in terms of knocking confidence - was in a lesson when I was younger, pony took off, I lost my balance and slammed into the wall of the indoor school, I only had scrapes and a MASSIVE bruise but it was ages before I would canter again and even longer before I'd take a hand off the reins to use a crop to canter.

Sorry, slightly epic post
