Falling off for the first time...

It's taken me ages to work out how to reply! Your creatures have made the page about 3 times the size of my screen! :eek:
 
The first time I fell off I was about 6 in a lesson at a riding school. We were in an outdoor arena, I was cantering and the pony suddenly pulled his head down, que me going over his ears! My mum was watching at the side of the arena and when I came off she panicked so much she jumped over the arena fence and ran to me (she isn't the most agile at the best of times so jumping over a fence was quite a feat!). Of course I was totally fine and got back on straight away!

Later on she decided to have a few riding lessons herself. She rode a half shire. He was HUGE but great for novices. She fell off him once and got taken to hospital (broke a rib!) needless to say she's never been back on a horse since!

Dear god, that explains a lot. Probably some kind of long term damage to regions involved in "panicking when your offspring injure themselves" :eek: :D Well there's no disputing her ability to teaach you to be independent :p

But not living close enough to help is just inconsiderate :rolleyes: Mine tries to help because she likes my ponies (and has been known to ride the old boy, provided it doesn't get in the way of her hair washing schedule :confused:), she's just a bit clueless... I wouldn't mind but she tries to correct me on the strength of having done an evening course in basic management at a local agricultural college over 10 years ago when we first got J!
 
Firstly: Rhino - AHAHAHAAAHHAAAA!!! When he came to talk to you were you actually able to look him in the face? Did he mention it? :D










Secondly: JFTD, QB, JT and Rhino - shall we make you your own little room or are you quite content to hi-jack every thread? Quite surprised this little guy hasn't made a re-appearance...

He seems to have just appeared on the 'bad English' thread :confused: :confused: Not sure how that happened ;)

And I don't think he had heard me but his groom may have mentioned it to him :o :o

We don't hijack every thread :( We're quite selective really :D

I think this thread was a poll on how people thought I would fall off this little lad for the first time. I believe there's a sweepstake on for when too :D
 
Can I stick a fiver on "forgetting to do the girth up whilst in awe of his lusciousness, and you and the saddle sliding out the side door"? ;)

That is a very real risk. In 4 years time when he's in work, I will let you know ;)

I must be a bad mother because I usually just laugh !
Especially when she fell off her pony and her glasses came off, the pony then trod on them and the poor child was on her hands and knees looking for them (blind as a bat), I was in fits of laughter and no help at all:D

There is not an eek smiley that even remotely covers how freaked out I am looking at that! *shudder*

My daughter will be 4 next week and hasn't done much riding or falling off, though she keeps trying to climb on the shettie - keep trying to explain to her that at 7 months old, he's way too young for that sort of thing! :rolleyes:

my mum does this all the time... the last time i was in a huge xc field and my mum and instructor were laughing to hard to bother to grab my horse (who had settled by them)
