Blimey NicoleS, you sound brave lol. The horse I had in my teens would catapult me off every now and again, he had the most enormous jump and if he gave it everything I had no chance lol. Current one is a bit better at sticking his head up to keep me on!

I can honestly say i am a wimp :D He was one of thoses horses that was very good when he was good but when he was bad he was very very bad!! Head between knees vertical bucking, but we later discovered it was due to pain so he was very much forgiven. There was one time he through me off twice in a warm up aswell, i refused to get back on but it was team jumping for the RC so a friend forced me to go and jump my rounds minus a warm up!! That was a long time ago but yes he did scare me alot but it learnt me to just get on and do it as no one else would do it for me. He did get out of the bad behaviour when he learnt being naughty got him no were. Oh and he taought me to sit to bucks :p

hence my new quest for the ultimate in mega-superglue-sticky breeches (ha, found some!!!)

Please tell me what they are!!

Staying in the saddle is not a bad thing! I have been riding babies all year and have been decked about 12 times. The worst was a 12.2h welshy who fractured my collarbone. It hurts!
I think it is a natural progression as you get older to start getting more self preservation, I have a friend who randomly used to jump 5 bar gates for fun on her old TB ex pacer, now she has to psyche herself up to jump over about 3'6 on her new horse. As you get older you start becoming more aware of the risks of falling off and try to avoid it!

I know what you mean - in 8 years of riding I have only fallen off four times, and although that ought to be a good thing, I do sometimes wonder if it's because I don't push myself enough! I see the kids on my yard doing crazy things like bareback chase-me-charlie, falling off every time they ride and just laughing and jumping back on, and I kind of wish I'd been that kind of child. Instead, I was the wimpy panicky child who clung to the saddle and made some poor RS helper sprint next to me in canter, and now that I'm older I think falling off is a bigger deal for me than it is for someone who used to hit the deck every day as a child. Never mind though - I know I'll never be the bravest rider, but I have fun. :) And I've never been badly injured from falling off, so that's a good thing!
