Agree with Cortez - the poor girl/owner who inspired this thread where really unlucky. I've had a few horses bomb off with me and come off a few for various novice-y reasons but what seems (from the reports) to have happened is a fairly common occurrence that could have happened with even a RS horse in an arena (it has to me!) and which had catastrophic consequences due to bad luck.
I'd expect to see a greater percentage of bad injuries among more experienced riders becasue they are more likely to be working at the edge of a horses inclination or ability. Those of us who don't touch those edges much will tend to fall in different circs.
