falls

Agree with Cortez - the poor girl/owner who inspired this thread where really unlucky. I've had a few horses bomb off with me and come off a few for various novice-y reasons but what seems (from the reports) to have happened is a fairly common occurrence that could have happened with even a RS horse in an arena (it has to me!) and which had catastrophic consequences due to bad luck.

I'd expect to see a greater percentage of bad injuries among more experienced riders becasue they are more likely to be working at the edge of a horses inclination or ability. Those of us who don't touch those edges much will tend to fall in different circs.

Unfortunately I have a great fear of coming off as every time I do I do myself a serious injury (though not as serious as you young lass in the OP).

I can probably count each individual time I've fallen, as I haven't actually fallen that many times. I've never fallen and been able to get straight back on, I've never fallen and "bounced", or landed on my feet. it's just pants :(

I came off my mare bout 6-7 weeks ago afther she put in a massive very excited buck in the stubble fields. Other than a cracking bruise and a cut lip I was fine. On Thursday I was riding my daughters pony on a hack. He was being silly in the road so I got off, just that normal action of getting off a pony has broken my knee. I'm still in hospital after having surgery Sunday. No one can actually believe that such a ormal thing could have resulted in such a massive imjury... me included!!
