Our spaniel is having a false pregnancy. She started a course of galastop on Thursday as she got progressively worse since I first spoke to the vet about it on Monday. Since starting the galastop she's been very quiet, fine out on walks (had a fantastic time in the woods today) but in the house she's glued to her bed and just watching the world go by, I feel awfully sorry for her.

I think her milk is starting to dry up but does anyone know when she should start to feel a bit perkier in herself? :(

usually start acting normal by day 3 after starting galastop - the recovery kicks in quicker if you have removed ' the babies' from her? - ours had a false pregnancy and signs lasted for about a week total including the time before she started the galastop - hope this helps

Remember once they have had a phantom pregnancy they are likely to have more and are at higher risk of pyometra, best to spay as soon as your vet is happy too x

As horsies said, generally a few days, although I've known one be on galastop for a week and still having a phantom! Although her phantom may stop, it can take a little while for her hormones to return to normal, which is why they usually give the bitch a couple of months after a season before spaying. Some return back to normal pretty quick, others can take a little while.

She sounds like she just needs a cuddle and some fuss :)

Thanks, her milk has started to dry up so I think she's on the mend. We are planning to have a litter from her and have discussed this with the vet so she won't be spayed just yet. If she has another phantom in her 2nd season we can get another bottle of galastop, breed after her 3rd season ( we already have homes lined up) and then spay :)
