Hi. Does anyone here know if a false sole can cause lameness? After switching farriers we found out my horse had false soles on both front legs. At the same time, we are struggling to find out why my horse is lame on the right leg (been checked by at least 5 vets), but after the new farrier shoed him I feel like the lameness I better. He is not 100% sound yet but it's better (unless my mind is playing tricks on me). So maybe it's the old farriers fault that he is lame? Crossing fingers..

It can cause discomfort but you can't really blame your farrier for the false sole horses often get them to protect the sole if it becomes bruised or too thin to cope with the ground they are walking on.

I do not blame him for the false sole but I belive he should have removed it earlier. According to the new farrier it had been growing/developing for a long long time causing a lot of bacteria that made the hooves stink. Sorry if that was unclear. The false sole also caused the toe to be quite long creating an incorrect hoof angle. Really hoping the new farrier is the answer to this lameness since no one else can figure it out
