Family fall out and property woes

Do you pay a rent for the space at your parents? If not then I can understand that they might feel it is a quid pro quo arrangement. As in they aren’t doing any harm and if you want the benefits relating to being family then you have to live with the drawbacks.

Not saying that this is right just that it could be behind their actions
Yes pay rent and paid £6k for all of the refurb as it was derelict before we moved back in there

FYI- it quite a personal fall out but parents are not horse people at all. They are scared of them and basically it’s an accident waiting to happen. They also have a history of not taking care of things or putting thingss back which gives me huge anxiety as I have OCD.

For context, I have 3 ponies- 1 mini, 1 that I’ve just paid 1k to be broken in to be a show pony wnd my baby girls future horse and my own horse. My parents have foster children who are learning to ride. They want to skirt around me by bringing in the ponies and riding without me being there because of this fall out.

I’m going to stay and grind and bear it until our offer is accepted. I can’t jeopardise that mortgage and I’ll have to just keep thinking of the end goal of the house. As long as they don’t touch the show pony and my mare, I’m not overly bothered. They can help themselves to the mini but at their own risk

Are you insured for others to ride your horses? Or even just handle them? If a foster child is injured you could be sued I think.

Wasn’t trying to drag out the personal information regarding fallout.

Would not having tack there stop them ?

Would emailing / texting (written proof) saying that the horses really aren’t suitable for novices especially if they don’t have experienced supervision (some are young and unpredictable). That your insurance doesn’t cover people to ride the horses and therefore you do not give your permission for the horses to be handled or ridden and that if they intend to ignore your express instruction then you would recommend that they take out their own insurance to cover any injuries or damage that might occur.

Also point out that you have just spent a considerable amount of money having one of them receive professional training and that if their actions result in this needing to be repeated you would have to ask them to foot the bill

I know of a lovely lady who fosters, just one child. She has 2 horses, one of whom would 100% be suitable as a novice riders' horse. She is experienced and suitable to show a young person the ropes with riding, although not qualified.

She spoke to social services of her plans to allow the teen boy to ride and they absolutely forbade it. For riding, they needed a professional set-up as it was deemed too dangerous.

It was a real shame TBH as the young person was really keen to become involved and it would have strengthened the bond between host family and foster child.
