Hi everyone, I've entered a family horse class without knowing if my horse is the right 'type' - sensible I know!

I've not done much showing but I'm guessing the horse must be a fairly safe allrounder? Can anyone tell me what sort of heights/sizes the horses are expected to be? I've got a laid back 15.2hh middleweight (TB X Welsh).

Also any tips would be appreciated!

i have done a few classes in the past, not that i ever did well due to pony galloping off with me!

they are looking for a horse/pony that can be ridden by all the family & so ideal heights are 14-16hh. the pony should be bombproof & unflappable & you need to do some "tricks" to demonstrate this. classic ones are to wave your stick around pony's head, get on & off from wrong side, shake pony's tail etc although my friend used to do a back flip off her pony & take a plastic bag into the ring to shake at it. obviously dont do anything that your horse hasnt seen before or doesnt like. just think of a routine that shows off the best unflappabilities that your horse has also sometimes you have to swap rides within the class or get someone else to ride your horse.

good luck!

Lol it happens to the best of us!

Thanks for your tips. Luckily my horse is fairly unflappable and doesn't mind whips around the head, plastic bags etc so I'll have to have a think of some tricks and have a practice run.

I think if I tried a back flip it would all end in tears!
