forgetting worries of own horse me my mum and my housemate set off to Brum today to watch the British open. Set off at 7am and arrived with stop on route at 10. Had an hour of shopping (disappointing as more naf stores than stalls that actually had anything horsey!!!) BUT I did find a specific pair of reins I have been searching for months for, and although had to settle for black not havanna they were only £20 and quality German Leather so I'm very happy.
The show itself was fantastic had international class with a cracking jump off followed by the U23 classic which William Whitaker rode the most professional jump off round it was untrue. Fully deserved to win both the class and the style award. Also Tim gredley's horse Timo was very impressive at 7 that has a big future ahead and never looked like touching a pole in the international class.
Then had every possible discipline almost. Vaulting, Barrel racing, scurry, dressage, polo, Intelligent horsemanship and pony club quadrille. Absolutely fantastic to all of them and Jean Francaios Pigeion or however you spell it was simply mingbogglingly breathtaking in his display. Challange any of you to ride Passage with no saddle or bridle!!!!!!!
Last was 3rd leg of the british open. Very good class going right to the wire. And a great win for John Whitaker showing how it should be done!
On leaving at nearly 6pm we decided we might as well drive past Solihull which was on route to see how old friend from home got on in the advanced medium open as she was last on at 5:30, and to also see if could get tickets for the gala night. Well timed it well as arrived and people had started queuing for the gala night got in for about 6:45 to find old friend had won the class by a clear 3%
and then proceeded to watch the intermediare I freestyle champ which had vaulting, heel work to music, Dane Rawlins demo and a pas des Deux also stuck in the evening. Was a great class to watch with a real mixture of standards. Felt sorry for first girl in as her horse kept spooking at the rolled centreline everytime she crossed it. She got huge round of applause when she made it go over X at the end though. Was nice to see the professionals make mistakes and Damian Hallam especially made some costly errors in the changes which pushed him down to about 6th. Judy Harvey rode a great test with the only slight error being her horse stalled slightly in the first canter pirouette.
So had a great day and seen basically every disclipline except XC (which is tomorrow no whoops today!
). am very knackered so off to bed now! lots of photos (thanks to my mum) will follow tomorrow no doubt
well done for getting this far just loved the fact was able to go from one event to the other perfectly timed and just see so much in one day
