Anyone got any experience of these reins by Carl Hester? Have been avidly watching another livery at my yard using them and they seem to make such a difference..... Have asked if I can borrow them to try, but would like to hear peoples opinions on them!!

I saw these and thought they might be worth a try, not sure about the price though!! Will be interested to hear opinions on them, let me know what you think if you try them!

I have the flexi reins and use them on my strongwilled warmblood to great effect. He has a tendency to lean on the right rein which makes me tense on that side and a viscious circle ensues. I don't use them all the time but occasionally for 3 or 4 days. imo they work.

I've got the soft hands which is a cheaper version as you attach them to your ordinary reins. Thought they were great but they kept pinging off so I gave up!

LOL. Have you seen the monster thread on the BD forum about this very topic? Very interesting reading. CH himself chimes in. Worth a look.

So whats the price difference with the flexi rein then? And thanks half step, I hadn't seen the post on BD, will have a look later!

I still feel I would like to give these a try after reading the posts on there!

I have to say they're great! I didn't like the look of the bits of rubber you can use! They're great for me and my very sensitive TB as I maintain a great contact - I've also started jumping in them as I have a tendency to jab slightly and it's stopped him feeling it....not sure they're something a pro would need - more for numpty's like me!

I have flexi reins (got them from 4dobbin about £35). I have a youngster who likes to hang on my right hand, and I tend to hang on back, the flexi rein just softens the feel but doesn't interrupt the contact. I just use them occasionally.

I bought a pair at Hartpury BD championships. I have used them twice as they are too short for my 18hh. Not too impressed having spent £65 on them. I was told by the retailer they only come in standard size. However, my horse went better in them than my conventional reins so am willing to take them to the saddler to get an extension stitched on. It was a chance I took.

I bought a pair and just couldn't get on with them at all. I tried them on my 4 year old and found he just stuck his head in the air and tanked off!?

The only way I could get him to take a contact was to use much bigger more exaggerated aids than I'd normally do - which defeated the whole object.

Resold them on ebay very swiftly!
