I was up at 4 to walk the dog and ride the horse before the heat kicked in, then get horses in at work (one gets a very burnt nose), do usual chores and have just been woken up by the hay being rowed up ready to bale.
I have 2 weeks in a caravan at the yard as the owners are away, loving the weather.
How is everyone else coping?
 
Am in Devon and although we do get some breeze as we're on a hill, tiz bleddi hot here already!

My Sweet Itchy traddie is inside at the mo, will have to chuck him out in the sun soon tho as the stable will be just too hot for him, poor old chap. He's piebald with a lot of white and I have to slap sun-protection on his face or otherwise he'd burn - summer is a real nightmare for him :(

Am not a fan of heatwaves, never have been. Just the way I am.

Dreaming of a nice ideal cubbing morning: crisp, bright & sunny.................

Me too :)

This is too warm (I moan if its over 20 degrees ayway :D )

My 2 have access to 3 small paddocks in the daytime with 1 large field shelter under the trees in the shady paddock by yard. They spend most of the day in there, saves me popping them in & out as they do their own DIY stabling when they get too hot or flies are bad :)
 
Dull & overcast where I am. Very, very humid though.

The horses have access to the yard to get away from the flies and are all currently lined up behind Mr Boss horse, who's parked his bum between the gateway and the first stable on the corridor, so no-one else is getting in anytime soon. Maybe little ponio will squeeze underneath him :D :D I might have to move him shortly to let the others in.

The hens are all puffed up cooling themselves in the shade and the dogs are on the cold stone floor in the kitchen.
 
I hate it! I don't want to ride or do anything when the sun is blazing. I would be super happy if it was cloudy, cool and dry all summer but that won't happen :(

It's ok if you don't have anything to do other than work but when you have ponies to ride, poo-picking and running to do, i find it utterly awful. Actually makes me sad!
 
Yes, it is rather nice at the moment! Been a long time coming, though. Up early to ride before work and it was perfect. Much prefer it to cold, wet and muddy conditions.
 
I love this weather - have been looking forward to it for days. Out at 4.30am with the dog, horses are in their shelter having a snooze. Am contemplating going down to the coast this evening as the tides are just about right for a swim around 8pm. Just watched the news and wondered why the chap was wearing a fleece then realised he was in Scotland!
 
Ours are out at night. If it is very warm like last night at 4pm it was 25C so our YO said she would turn our horses out for us when the heat at died down a little around 9pm that night. She lives on site so its no journey for her but it was kind of her as it was so hot.

I expect she will do the same tonight. I actually fancy a hack down to the ford tonight, but I think the flies would be horrendous!

I took my horse to the local riding club yesterday for course hire and walked and trotted for about fifteen minutes in the indoor school before going into the main outdoor school which I had hired, I ended up jumping the individual jumps once, and the whole course twice with a break in between and called it a day, he was lathered in sweat! It was very hot in the midlands yesterday.

I'm not a fan of the really hot weather! Being fair skinned and freckly, I will burn too easily if I spend too much time outdoors.
I'd be happy with 20 degrees and cloudy, as long as it's dry :)

My mare is coming in tomorrow during the day as it's meant to get to 30 degrees!
 
We have one at work who gets terribly sunburnt but everything i am responsible for is in today, I am currently having a sit in the sun. I bought the dog a fleece coat a few weeks ago that can be used as a cool coat, you just wet it wring it out and pop it in it really makes a difference even if it is looking very dirty as she does like to roll about in it.
 
i dont mind it at all. as long as appropriately dressed i find it easy to just crack on.

mine are all out, fly rugs and masks on and all fields have shade. I don't really want to upset routine by swapping to night turnout for the sake of a week or 2 at most plus not sure i feel totally comfortable leaving the stallion out overnight, just in case something were to happen and he ended up loose....he is the softest kindest horse out but he does like an adventure and could end up miles away just having a lark around!

i did hack at 6am sun to avoid the flies but the flies dont seem to come in to the arena much so schooling is no issue..........ive just been home and taught a client on my lunch break, will teach one at 5pm tonight, and then ride my own. we will be hot, but will cool down after under the hose!
 
I don't mind it at all for myself but the horses were doing river dance because of the flies this morning and both my dogs have decided it's cooler under my desk. Cracking on with work so that I can go wash my horse's legs after work and possible take him for a short hack down the village
 
Mine normally comes in during the day, out at night - but I've asked the yard to leave her out until Thurs as she'll be better off out as her stable gets boiling! Her field is on a hill so gets some breeze so I figured out with a fly rug to reflect the sun will be better (she is almost black and a very warm person). I bring her in to get her off the grass, but their field is fairly well grazed down at the moment and I figured a few days of grass won't be the end of the world, even if she gets the muzzle off! We'll go back to fat camp routine from Thurs when it is due to cool down again.
At my old yard the stables were lovely and cool so bringing in worked well - but my stable at current yard is like an oven unfortunately.
 
mine have been pretty much living out since April- one of my mares has a pink nose so has sun cream and a long fly mask for high UV days and they don't have a shelter but some hedges and trees, so until now have been fine, as rarely been about 20. However today is 32'C so they have come into the barn for the day.
I am really struggling with the heat as I am 8 months pregnant! plus, the field is a 15 minute walk from the barn and will have mucking out to do later which my back is no longer very happy with- as they will need to come in the next 2 days of heat wave too. I have never been one for excessive warmth but baby and baby weight have made it even worse.
 
I much prefer cooler dry weather. Find the humidity awful in this country. I much prefer to be in the shade when its like this. Dogs and horses hate the intense heat, I wont ride in it as I do not find it very pleasurable. I do hope everyone that loves the sun makes the most of it whilst it os here :)
 
Our summer seems to have arrived, and it's forecast for over 30C for most days this week. Unfortunately I tend to turn into a puddle of meh at anything over 23/24, so I really don't like this weather at all.

My mare copes with it much better than my black gelding, but they both sweat up loads during work (and this year my mares summer coat is thicker than half of the yards winter coats!), so lots of cool showers, and salt in meals for mine.
