I went to Norton Disney with some trepidation. Not only due to the reports of bog, but also I felt having had such a good run at Oasby last week with both horses jumping double clear and being in the top 6, I was prehaps pushing my luck, and due a disasterous run!
Jem was up first in the BE100. She was in her most argumentative mood, and warm up consisted of a few bounces on the spot when I used my leg, but not actually going forwards. Went in and Jem suddenly decided she could do what I asked and actually she did an alright test. We got 31.5 which was 6th best in the section, so a good start for Jem as dressage is the weak point. Onto the SJ, plenty of poles were falling. Jem being Miss Consistent and true to recent form left them all up.
Straight on to XC. The warm up was a little boggy, so kept it to a minimum, and before we knew it we were away. Jem cruised round easily inside the time.
So we finished on our dressage score of 31.5 and came 3rd which was a step in the right direction from our usual 4th place! This means Jem has been placed in the top 6 in 10 of our 13 runs, and won 90 FP this season! So I hoping we will make it into the top 20 horses in the FP leauge table. Her grand total now stands at 140 FP. I also have to go be presented with our award for coming 3rd in the Yorkshire and North East Eventers League on Thursday evening, so she has done pretty well this season!
Next up was Pickle in the BE90. In the dressage warm up he decided carring his oown head was far too much hard work, and to lean on me was a much better idea. Worked on some transitions and got his hind end working and in we went. The test felt OK, nothing spectacular, but obedient. Went straight down to SJ and we jumped a fab clear round.
Off XC. I was a bit unsure how Pickle would handle the mud, but I needn't have worried as he ate up the XC course, flying everything. Took it steady and trotted in a couple of places. But we came home clear with 4 time penalties, with big grins on our faces.
Turns out we had lead the dressage with a score of 28, so despite or 4 XC time penalties we still managed to hold onto our lead and won the section! I am so proud of my little horse, to think he is 5 and I have only had him just over 3 months! So Pickle has ended the season having been placed in every run bar 1 (where his numpty rider made a pilot error and got 20 pens!). I am so excited about his future, he could be a very special little horse!
So a perfect end to a pretty good season. We need to make sure we come out bigger, better, faster and stronger (well hopefully not bigger!) next spring and fingers crossed there will be no stopping us! Now off to put away my tweed and dig out my bling ready for a winter of BD and BS!
