i'm 5'10 and mins is 13.1 arab x welsh I used to ride her til she got injured, I weight just over 9st now...(put weight on) and merls was 15.1 CB i'd ride whatever size so long as it was happy for me to do so.
5ft 9 and my girlie is 17.2ish IDxWB so pretty solid. I weigh about 8 1/2 stone so could probably have got something smaller - well i did ... she was 16.2 when i bought her
I'm 5'8" and weigh around 10 stone. I ride everything from daughter's 14.2 Dales pony through to my 15.1 Danish wb to my 16.5 Dutch wb (TB looking) to my husband's 17.1 Welsh cob cross.
Feel fine on all of them and I am quite long in the leg, especially hip to knee so it is more a question of finding a saddle that fits me so that my knee it not over the knee block.
I'm 5'9" and my current horse is 16.3 IDxHannoverian. My previous 2 were 17hh (1xshire & 1x clyde). Prior to them I had a 16.3 shirexclyde but at the same time I had a 15.2 TBxWelshD. I also rode our 14.3 gypsy-type cob regularly until she retired. i have long legs and always feel more comfortable with something 'that takes it up in the width'. I also like a nice broad chest/shoulder. As one seller said to me 'I always like a bigger horse, they tend not to lift either end up too quickly'
Sister and I have both commented that we each like to ride the type of equine that we learned to ride on, because I was tall for my age I was often given a cob or hunter to ride while she who was small for her age was given the show ponies.
I'm5'9" (about 12 1/2 stone) and have no desire to ride tall horses anymore as my poor arthritic leg can't even raise up to get on my 15.3hh TB! I don't think I'm weirdly proportioned for my height although I do have slightly long lower legs and tall boots are never long enough for me.
Me on 15.3 Hattie (TB):
Me on my old 14.1hh loan horse, an Arab:
I don't think I look too big or heavy for either of them!
Im 5ft9 and ride a 17hh horse at the moment, my one before was a 14"3hh cob!! Hehe will upload photos when i find them. I am bigger built now then i was when i had my cob (summer
I am about 5'8" and 11 stone and Belle is 16.2 ISH, not hugely chunky but reasonably strong with good legs. Before Belle I rode a 15.3 but I think it would be fun to ride something smaller sometime.
This is me on Belle and please forgive the fact that she looks a bit like a donkey in the first one I think I look quite a good size on her... maybe she's not 16.2 and I should measure!
I'm 5'8" and have ridden anything from 17hh down to my current heavyweight cob at 14.3hh. She's built like a tank though (see pic below). I feel very consious on her doing anything apart from hacking and as you can see, I'm no size zero!
I've also just bought a 2yr old CB x, currently standing at 15.1hh - she'll be approx 15.3 - 16hh when she's fully grown. I bought her to do riding club type activities on as my cob doesn't like schooling and finds it quite hard work. Well thats the plan anyway. Here a pic of her too.................
Luna - CB x
I'm 5"9, 11 stone-ish I think and I ride a 14.1 and a bit middle weight cob.
I do look kind of tall on him but he seems to manage.
I used to have a 16.1hh dutch warmblood, she took my leg but apparently sometimes my body looked to big for her...I think I need one of these 17/18 hand beasties that everyone else has!
5ft11 10 1/2 stone, very long legs!! I ride my 17hh light weight ISH and find him on the small side. Previously had a 17.3hh light weight warmblood and found him the most comfortable, although I do ride a 15.1hh warmblood and a 15.1hh andy x tb both of which have nice big barrels so take up a lot of my leg going round rather then down!!
I'm 5ft9 and a 1/2 (and only 16 though i think i've stopped now!) and have long legs. I ride a 16hh ID x TB but he has more TB than ID as heis finer build than others we have compared him against
I weigh about 11 stone
Build wise he's like this: (not the best pic but only one i could find at the mo)
Used to only ride anything over 15.2 min but now ride elsewhere and have gone the other way. I've adapted my riding style but still only ride either a 13.2 (not that often though), 13.3 or 14hh and I'm 5ft 11

I'm around 5ft8 (leggy!) and i'm going to look at a 15hh tbx next week. Apparently she isn't a fine built tb but i still dont know if i will be too big for her.

I think you will know when you ride her, it is how you feel when riding, I don't feel right on a horse under 16hh, but that is just me, lots of tall people ride smaller horses!
I'm 5'9 and about actually found that my previous horse, a 15.3 IDXTb, took my leg up much better than my current 16.2/3 DWB - I think it depends on the shape of the horse far more than the height, the only I have found for me is that I prefer a horse which doesn't make me feel as though I am sat up their shoulders, IYSWIM.
Does make it harder for him to maintain balance in the light seat, I would say, but she goes amazingly well for him even though he's not a very correct rider.
i'm 5'8 (and a smidgen) and about 10.5st (i.e slim-ish)
I own a -currently-14.2-but-still-growing coloured cob youngster who is hopefully going to make 15hh. I've sat on him a couple of times and look ridiculously tall on him, so he better bloody grow!!!!
I loan a 15.2hh ish welsh cob X and look a little tall on him but not silly:
And I ride a 16.3 ish HW hunter type and sometimes manage to look small on her!
