After Alec commented on a couple of pictures of how personalities show through on pics I thought I would set a challenge...

What do you think my two are like?

Ok, I'll give it a go :)

Freddie,

Aloof with strangers but friendly if a little reserved after a while. Catlike and he looks like a good rabbiter. Sociable with other dogs but on his terms.

Boyd,

A professional goon - bouncy, silly but very happy :) Every stranger human or canine is a new best friend...

I'm probably miles off.

Yeah, that's about it!! The white dog (he has a good front), would be as has been said, a little aloof and is entirely happy in his own company, but the younger(?) dog is still a puppy (8-10 months?) and is still playing the part of the village idiot. I have a 9 month old puppy, and apart from his colour wouldn't be that dissimilar, and he too thinks that he's a clown!! They do calm down, eventually.

Probably totally wrong!!

Alec.

Freddie White dog is 5, super sociable and friendly and totally nuts!

The 'pup' Boyd is actually 8, a bit of a loner and very lazy!!

Well as my last effort was back to front, so this will probably be wrong too; In the top two pics mynutmeg, Meg looks to be about a year old, and in the bottom one, certainly older as you say, and she's acquired a 'rounder' appearance, so probably 7-8 years?

Personality? Sheepdog! She looks bold and confident in the top two pics, and apart from the fact that in the bottom pic, she appears to be 'skirting' around the horses back end, I'm sure that she's the same confident dog that she's always been.

My old collie dog is really becoming old and arthritic, a bit like his owner, and the search is now on for a replacement puppy. The problem is that I really want a puppy which is 4-5 months old, and already showing an interest in sheep. Mostly, such youngsters come along when I'm not looking for them, but not when I am!!

I couldn't believe how much working sheep dogs fetch! Someone I know just sold an 18m old pup for £10k!!

close - se's 2-3 in the top two pics and the bottom pic was last week, she's almost 11!
In generaly yup, confident and very, very cheeky but horses are scary - ironically sheep are scary as well but I've encouraged that as she isn't a working dog but has very strong instincts so I dont' want her keen on them. She also tends to run circles around the horses which I guess is the herding instinct.

I can't believe how expensive collies are, at least the ones with good herding instincts rather than the large quantitiy in rescue. I think I paid £100 for meg as a pup from a farm (she's not registered at all) yet similar, unregistered, little farm dogs are advertised at £2/300 a time now!

OK, so probably wrong, but;

Penny Less, I'd say that your dog exudes confidence, and is a very happy dog.

vieshot, assuming that you can transport your dog in a wheelbarrow, I'd say 'Totally trusting of you', and that isn't always the most easily achieved state!

Alec.

Half right Alec. He is a happy dog, incredibly owner orientated and very lazy ! Not particularly confident though unless he is standing right behind me !

Twiggy2 .. Good assessment. He's a rescue dog I was helping with in Cyprus. I found him skinny and scared and it took a lot of convincing that me taking him for a walk didn't mean I was going to beat and abandon him. However as you said , once trust was established he was great and the nose kicked in in week 2 ..and boy did he follow it :)
Gee thanks Alec.. Actually he had the runs so he was probably using lead as a bum wipe ;)

.......

He resembles an English Pointer. Is he an E_P, or are there breeds on Cyprus which resemble E_Ps?

What ever he is, he's a most handsome animal.

I though he was a german pointer ..think that's what I was told. But I'm not so sure now.. Do the English pointers have more of a forehead?
He's a beauty and I'm very sad to say he's already got a home here in uk because I fell in love with him and I'd have loved to keep him. Who'd have thought hounds were such fun :)

noisy, suspicious but cheeky, likes everything on his own terms, likes people but not so keen on other dogs?
Close:)
Can be noisy, definitely cheeky but not really suspicious, loves people and animals, very clever little dog, independent.
:)
