Another "Airhead"! I will be in good company. You have my sympathy. If they are all like Jasper was the selective deafness gives rise to murderous tendancies and the stubborn ignorant streak...well...that's just soul destroying!

He has excelled himself this evening, knocking the Christmas tree over by bashing the rocking char into it, because he was running up and down rubbing against the chair as he got damp earlier

LOL - Patches and HH - listen, when you get into the shooting lot you will have a ball - its all about having a laugh, loads of drink, food, socialising and, oh yes, lets not forget, that actually we were meant to be at the shoot to do a job!!!

As long as all the birds are picked up at the end of the day (and thats what we are there for) we thoroughly enjoy ourselves along the way - Once you are in the shooting game there is no turning back!!

ETA: Sorry to be anal and pedantic but just wanted to add - even though I suspect you already know that (particularly in Patches case) working a dog on the shoot is very demanding on a young dog and we usually wait until they are 12 months old before we even introduce them and then expect a dog to be working full season when they are 2 yrs old and beyond. Their joints suffer terribly otherwise - sorry if I am teaching Grandmother to suck eggs!!!

Oooo no I didn't mean I wanted Harvey to go shooting straight away.

The man who trains his springers down the lane was just going to give me some general obedience training tips so I can start the foundations of his education correctly.

I'm ok with the idea of the sit, down, stay etc but I wanted his advice on the recall and commands when they are away from you as that's what I struggled with when I had Jasper.

I'm thinking more of next summer, just for the start of recall in a very small paddock or our garden.

Yes - it was such a nice day we went after we'd finished with the behaviourist and popped into the real ale shop on the way

Hi guys - haven't posted in here before but if anyone would like some (semi) professional advice - my OH has trained cockers, pointers and setters for about a hundred years - used to have teams of dogs for the grouse and also spent years on the trial circuit - he would be happy to help if anyone has questions
