after going on the liverpool wood pellets website the quote it said for delivery inc.vat was £237.00,so i phoned up to confirm and was told it was 5% vat if it was for bio fuel and 20% if used for horse bedding, which would have taken it up to £265.

so has anyone done their order online and has not/'forgot' said it was for horse bedding and had it delivered to an equestrian address without queries??

also another question...most on my yard are currently using verdo wood pellets and i was wondering how the liverpool wood pellets compare? i was told on the phone that lwp are more absorbent and lighter in colour than the verdo, but their going to say that arn't they!

so any veiws?

we actually do have biomass heating system - but tbh they'd never know if not... the delivery company is just that - delivers - not actually part of the company. we buy in 1 tonne pallets and the packaging is exactly the same.
we also have stables ;)

ps - we buy stovies - so above accounts for that company anyway ;)

I am just changing from Liverpool to Verdo as think the quality of LWP has gone down a bit, so will let u know difference in a few weeks ;)

Also agree with poise, the delivery is just by a haulage company so they don't know what you are using them for :)

Tbf who is going to honest enough then to tick the box saying its for horse bedding and add £35 onto the cost??

I have never thought to specify and have never paid more than the price online ie no vat - per pallet.

I use LWP and have used another company....White Horse Bedding I think?

the price diff by the pallet is verdo £290 for 975kg and lwp £237 for 1000kg

From the replies I got to my thread a couple of weeks ago, people do! I was told in no uncertain terms that buying wood pellets (or in my case, straw pellets) as biofuel and then using them as bedding thus avoiding 15% vat is fraud and revenue and customs will knock at my door demanding their vat!

Gosh! Will look into it again then - although I bet there is a delivery surcharge for the southern companies to deliver up here (bonny scotland - often classed as highlands)...and vice versa of course!

Yes he said as it will have to come from scotland to west mids it will obs be more, but that is just a diffence to me because of where I am. Other companies are free delivery
