E_C_W ... I noticed you clipped your youngster... is this for showing inhand ??

Would love to clip missy but surely she would look silly and what about the clipping lines ?

yes she was clipped ready for the shows (inhand) becuase her coat was coming out very patchy and she looked bloody awful. Shes got her first show in a little over 2 weeks so there was no chance of getting an even coat through by then.

In 4 weeks time its got plenty of time to grow bakc to a nice legth and any lines will have gone by then.

What are the peoples reasonings behind not clipping her? If it is done right and carefully then she should look like this:

(just had to show everyone again as im so proud of this photo!)
Shes had all her legs taken off down to her knees, all the backs were taken off but there wasnt enough on the fronts to taken any off but you wouldnt notice it as it blends so well. Shes also got half a head still on as my instructor didnt want to push her too much at such a young age and because she had been so good for all the rest of her body she ended it on a good note.

Shes been with us since she was 6 mths old, it just wasnt fair(my opinion clipping her) but again I dont know whats right at whats wrong for showing as I have never shown inhand before esp not at balmoral.

Anyone else think this is right ?

Sorry E_C_w , Im not saying your wrong by the way lol , just need more reassurance if im going to do this .

dont worry about it. Id never thought about it till my instructor asked if she could do it. The reason she asked was because has and shows quarter horses and they are clipped. She thought it would tidy her up and it certainly does that and a lot more.

It will be nice to see what ever one else thinks on clipping.

she was clipped last Sunday. This is probably the closest piccie ive got of her - not very good but im going over there tomorrow so can get more then for you if you want?

clipped my cob yesterday, think she`s much happier as she had whooly belly.yes i know tail is too short but it`s clean with no knots.

i thought shed look clipped but to be truthful shes very velvety so it doesnt feel clipped. Youve got 4 weeks which is long then i had but dont do it if you dont feel its right. The last thing you want to do is ruin it her coat for the show.

Just catching up on your posts on Missy now, glad she is fighting fit again. I clipped my mare last weekend in Dec and her coat is just perfect now, all summer coat through and absolutely gleaming. I think in all honesty if you were to clip it would have been all off about 3 - 4 months ago, especially with a bay. Greys seem to look less obvious if just clipped, but bays and chestnuts have that dusty colour about them.

Good luck with Balmoral, I bet you are very excited now that you are all on course again..
