those first pics remind me of what ours looked like when we bought them, and then, when I look at them now, I cant believe they are the same ponies! I don't think you needed to vindicate yourself at all but I am glad that you put those pics up, if it helps people to understand better what you do then that can only be good, I think your honesty has been misunderstood by some. I was very guilty of thinking all 'dealers' were the same until I met the dealer I know quite well some years ago, he doesnt produce them, they are all sold at his own auction, but they are treated well whilst with him. I now know the difference and it makes the whole thing so much easier to comprehend. They are all lovely JM and from me you have total respect for what you do!
 
There are some lovely ponies in your pictures, love the dark brown youngster.
I wont condemn what you do......to give these ponies atleast a chance is comendable.
We have a dealer local to us and he buys up at markets, sends to Turners weekly, local bunny huggers slag him off endlessly, but he only sends what he terms as rubbish....not horses/ponies that could have a useful life, and if you go to him he is honest with you and you can get a bargain. His are not kept as well as yours though JM07.......I take my hat off to you.

Wether that be a scruffy little sec A yearling straight off the hills that might be a show ring superstar or a negelcted cob that has a kind attitude and good conformation and would make a lovely hack.

Take a visit to any lower end horse auction and I bet many of you would be deeply shocked. Some of the animals passed through are pure crap, horses that have been bred incorrectly (sway backed, no straight legs etc) and have been passed pillar to post, horses that people point at and laugh / cry. Others have once been someone's best friend and through circumstance stand in that pen half starved and wormy.

I truly think some people live such sheltered lives, they keep their horse at top end livery yards and their contact with the horsey world comes via shows and events.

I don't think it's until you've seen a case of pure neglect / cruelty that you could understand why some people make it their mission to weed the hopeless from the 'potentials' and have the hopeless put out of their misery. If they didnt these horses would spend the next 10 or 20 years living in their own hell.

I have seen cases of pure neglect and cruelty, and hold my hat off to people like JM who have the fscility, time, patience, understanding and knowledge to help these cases either have a better life or rest in peace...

Well done JM07.....you have bought and managed to make good some of the unfortunate horses you buy at the horse sales.

The image which you did portray..not only to me but to many on this forum, was of a self opinionated, un-caring individual who personally attacked other forum users.....you gave the impression that you bought equines from the markets and sold them on if they could be brought back to health or then sent them to slaughter if they were no good. Obviously this was totally wrong.

I do commend you on looking after the lucky horses which you were able to do something with.

Thank you for the photographs....and taking the time to show what you have acheived in your business.

If you wish to portay me under the same light as dollybean that is up to you......I thought her post was highly amusing and nothing else so commented on it knowing you would be strong enough to defend yourself.....if I had not also commented on your 'help' at the horse sales nobody would be any the wiser of what you actually do.

I agree, absolutely nothing! What else can you do with a horse with no future? The kindest option isn't always the easiest.
 
I missing something? I thought that WAS what JM did!

She buys ponies who'd otherwise go for meat, if she can help them, she sells them as show/riding ponies, if she can't then they go for slaughter.

You know, it's often said that a dairy farmer loves his cows. A lot of people can't understand why, in that instance, a farmer would shoot the bull calves at birth, send a cow for slaughter just because her yeild dropped a little.

End of the day, JM can love horses more than the entire forum put together. But what she does is a job, and she cannot deprive horses of the correct attention because she 'loves' them.
 
No you're not missing anything; that is what JM does; and it's a damn fine service if you ask me!
 
loan them all out as companions which will end up being used for hacking (when they're lame) or breeding (when they're old and havent any papers anyway).

Believe me there are idiots that do this....
 
I think it is very hard for some who come on here to actually understand the other side of horse ownership. We all live in our own little bubbles and dont like to think of the reality outside. I, for one, will never part with any of mine through choice, I made that commitment to them when I bought them. Should the unthinkable happen and I be in a position where I can no longer keep them then they will ALL be PTS at home, together. 3 of my own 4 (the other 3 are my partners) came from horrible lives and never again will they be mistreated by a human, the young one was born with me and will never know harsh treatment or hunger. Perhaps we should be a little more tolerent of those who cannot bear to think of the reality and perhaps help them to understand the alternatives. If people took that responsibility for their animals then JM would be out of business where the poor ones are concerned, she wouldnt need to clean up after the irresponsible owners/breeders.

Put it like this i could never do what JM is doing since i am too soft and i would get emotionallt attached to all of them,but you are giving the poor ones the TLC that they all deserve and the others a future,so hat of to you !
When i went out on a long lovely hack today i thought about you and your business a lot,and like i said in another post all the dodgy dealers gives people like you a bad name
We might disagree on a everything else but i do support you on this on,people that put animals welfare first get my respect
 
She has cheered me up no end about the 'nitty gritty' side of domestic horses. We just need many more like her!

I would get too emotionally attached, too, so no point me even going there. I have five already with no intentions of letting them out of my sight (just in case).

One is 28 though..............

Ever since I learnt, or got an idea, of what JM07 does, I supported her, and am so pleased that now so many more people understand and applaud her. Well done JM07.

I have to say, having bought a horse through JM07 (although she was selling Spring on behalf of somone else), she is not uncaring at all, but a sensible and compassionate horse woman who finds the best possible homes for all the horses she sells. If you are not suitable for the horse she is selling - she won't let you have it!! She most definitely calls a spade a spade!

The ones who can live a productive life get a 2nd chance and those who can't, get treated with respect and dignity in their last few days.

CG, Tia donkeymad......yes its the former mainly..i dont go to the Abattoir very often these days as stock quality and prices have risen..thankfully!!!
