Fao FrodoBeutlin, vids finally:

A few years back I took my friends daughter to a Silver Spurs training day in Ireland with William Micklem. One of the things he talked about was "training your left (or weak) hand" he suggested that you start doing everyday tasks with your left hand that you would normally do automatically with your right hand, for example brushing your teeth and hair - try it - it is nearly impossible to start with! The idea is to train the natural co-ordination that you have in your right hand into your left hand (and vice versa for lefties!) If you stick at it you will be amazed at the improvement that follows in the control of your left hand. I have been doing it for years now and am virtually ambidextrous now and my left hand is much better "trained" when riding.

that is such a good idea! will def try and use left hand more, so simple but i bet it really helps, thank you :)

his trot is very comfy, would be a nice trot for someone with a bad back as no jarring, its more a rolling motion if you know what i mean.

tan set is HKM, i think its sand.

RR-you are right in that tracking left i find it much harder to keep himon my outside rein and correctly flexed than tracking right, its a work in progress but the last week or so iv felt and improvement in that connection, so keep on plugging i guess.

thanks all, off to tape up hand and do left handed grooming!!!

As I've always thought that collected/medium should be easier to sit but you looked erm a bit bouncy (no offense meant to your position I just can't think of better desriptive words...).

I tend to use how 'sit-able' Beau is as a measure of how well he is working as his 'cold' trot is absolutely impossible to sit and how he looks can be very deceptive compared to what you feel.

In my experience, when a horse is working well over his back the trot HAS to be easier to sit -- if you can't sit a medium/extended trot then it means that the horse is not fully thorough. If a horse is working correctly over his back then an extension should be no different to collected trot.

Which explains why one can't really sit a 'cold' trot without difficulty.

I also always use how 'sit-able' Rauti's trot is! Normally it becomes super easy to sit after working on half-steps/piaffe, precisely because he is then totally loose/supple and thorough

So nice to finally see some videos of him :)

I'd concur with the jump in the canter comments, and I'd like to see him coming up more in the frame with the trot work (don't know if videos were early in session) I think by bring him up his neck will appear shorter although not the kind of tight and short that you don't want, if you know what I mean :) which in turn should enable you to shorten your reins a little.

Don't worry too much about the wayward hand, we all have our issues...I'm forever being told to put my hands down when I leg yield. For some reason I just tighten and my hands go up!

I read all the comments first, then thought 'I'll just get a slice of toast to eat whilst watching the video's. I didn't read your comment about how short they were :) I'd only ate a mouth full and the first one was over! :D

He looks lovely, again so relaxed which also shows that the camera never lies :D

I can barely see your left hand so there must be some trained eyes around :) My biggest problem since riding in a dressage saddle is that my lower leg tends to slip to far back, I blame my saddle :D

You look really good together. You sit well and look like you ride with a really kind, light hand. He looks well balanced in the counter canter, I was waiting for a change :)

Who is you lesson with?

Our friend SC uses white tape in the lessons and '' woe betide you move your hands''!!!!!

 CS!! He reminds me so much of Wally, his frame is so similar, I can't even get xfs breastplates to fit him he's so damn huge and long in front! So I know exactly where you are coming from on the rein length/length of neck issue. I too get told to shorten my reins and shorten his neck, but then he just curls under and I lose all self carriage and connection I had.

On another note, what is the green fencing around your arena and where can I get some? Desperte for some fencing to keep my rubber in!

janey-got a harry lesson sun,c ant wait, been trying to sort it for a month!!!

glad to hear im not alone in that issue saratoga, now this is going to sound weird as hell...but last night i really experimented with the tone in my body and how it afffects my hands, and i found that if i though of breathing out my shoulders, it created more tone in my core, but relaxation in the upper half of my body, and i was able to keep hands down and forward more easily, so, um yeah, weird, but worked!
