Dear Hatless Moron,

I hope you enjoyed your ride this morning in the sunshine. Are you training for a trotting race? It was a good thing you were trotting so fast up the major A road as I was able to hear the gunshot strikes of your horse's feet on the tarmac before I came round the blind bend, so that I was able to slow down and didn't have to hit an oncoming lorry to avoid you. It was extra clever of you to make yourself heard as your grey and brown clothes made you pretty hard to see in the shadows when you come out of the bright sun, ha ha! lol.

Judging by the headphones and the way you were jigging your head up and down, you find roadwork as dull as I do, so what a good idea to take your ipod with you to make the time fly by.

I hope you made it back safely in one piece, and I hope you read this and don't ever do anything so utterly stupid and dangerous ever again! It's not so much what happens to you that bothers me - call it natural selection, and besides without a hat you probably wouldn't know much about it - but it is pretty reckless and inconsiderate with regard to your horse and other road users, like me! I would really rather not write my car off and risk injuring myself or anyone else. Plus it would cause loads of hassle and this morning would have made me late so I wouldn't have had time to ride my own horse before work.

That is all. Thank you for your kind attention.

SM

PS Have you considered putting in your entry in advance for next year's Darwin Awards? Lol

well said
the trouble with riding on the road with that attitude, gives more ammunition for other road uses to hate the rest of us riders

ps i do love the darwin awards..............:)

What an eejit :/ I wish people realised that they're not only putting themselves at risk, they're putting their horse and many other people at risk too. People like that should not be allowed to ride on roads!

Always a good idea to drive slowly round blind bends, you never know what you'll meet, could be a slow moving tractor, a cyclist or a broken down car.
We have to ride on roads with bends and always hope I don't meet a driver going too fast.

It gave me such a scare - it was on a blind bend where a very fast road suddenly narrows and there is nowhere to go! I SO nearly hit him, if I'd been going 2 mph faster (which i often do) I'd have been right up his bum. So to speak.
And without a hat! And with an ipod on!

Dumbass.

Yes, lesson learnt.

It's so easy to be complacent when it's a road you use all the time, and it is a major A road so people whizz round those bends at 80 all the time. It's one bend in between 2 long wide straights you see.

Still, I will be crawling round it from now on!

Maybe she had just had her hair done!!!!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Bl00dy idiot! What will it take for some to realise that a hat is there for their protection!

LOL ! There's a hump backed bridge on a bend on a busy A road near us which links our bridelpaths. My bombproof mare decided to have a stop and look moment right there because a motorbike had been left covered with a big tarpulin. Mare was indignant, Fortunately, traffic stopped while missy was given a couple of pony club kicks as I had my heart in my mouth watching for the traffic stopping.
Another day at the same spot, I was driving my car when over the bridge I suddenly saw a duck crossing the road with her ducklings.

That said, you're right. No hi viz and ipod is very stupid. The hat, probably not needed. No brain to protect.

Many issues here and subjects raised

The whole thing about hats--had to refrain from commenting on another Forum--girl went to lunge stallion at her place of work which meant passing mare on horse walker. No hat, stallion battled for freedom she got banged on the head, felt dizzy, tried to phone YO but no credit on her phone, let stallion into field and sat down to await being found..............

Cripes sounds scary! And your mare is very sensible to be suspicious of such odd looking things. How dare they put them on her hacking route!

You're right - no point protecting the brain, but at least a hat might protect the ipod headphones! They're expensive! :D

What happened to her?

It's not nice visiting someone in hospital who had suffered from a fractured skull from hitting the deck on the roads.....and she was wearing a hat (and not of the baseball variety neither) perhaps it takes something like that to make the hatless morons realise it's just plain stupidity and not worth the risk.
