I was reading on the trailer motorway driving thread about stabilisers.
I will be towing on one in Sept. I'm interested in getting a stabiliser for my trailer. I looked at the bull dog one but it's a bit out of my price range. Are there any you recommend that's a bit cheaper. Do you need garage to put them on?

Ok so I spoke to several dealers about this (I started that thread) and they all said they were not common place on horse trailers for a reason and that the one they had put on had been bought back to be removed as caused more problems than it solved!

I bought one a while ago and it's just sat idle so if anybody wants one let me know but likewise if they are problematic I'd like to know

I've got two bulldog stabilisers. I bought them when I bought my new trailer - although that was 4 years ago now how time flies.
I bought them to prevent snaking as I had a v nasty overturn on A1 with my hired trailer and 2 horses on board.
Negotiated the two stabilisers and bulldog hitch n wheel clamps - stabilisers fitted - for just over £300. Well worth it

Still wondering why they apparently cause more trouble than worth.....anyone enlighten me?

Can't help there, I used one for years. I was at a large yard with 40 odd horses, and maybe 12 of us were trailering out every week up and down the country, using saloon/ hatch type cars.

No stabiliser = weaving trailer and bounce up and down if the horse was giddy at the prospect of hunting.

With stabiliser = if a lorry did grab you and start a sway the stabiliser took the sway out in a couple of snakes. If the horse was giddy the trailer was held steady, as in it did not bounce up and down...

I bought mine from Towsure, and having just had a quick flick on Google, they have a "Snakemaster" one for £62 at the moment.

The only "problem" I had with mine was a bit of a faff setting it up to start with, then a bit of a faff every time I used the trailer making sure it was on. But, for me, up and down the M1, the M18, the M62 and the A1 (M) it was a small price to pay in £ and in trouble to know that if I did feel a lurch that it would all be sorted automatically within a very few, well dampened, sways.

Once a friend went out without one (I think they had a new car), and as they exited the M1 to the M18 their trailer caught the wind from a lorry, just as it was a bit unsettled through taking the curve onto the slip road, the horse (that had been peacefully dozing) touched the side of the trailer and woke up abruptly, and jigged about sending the trailer into a wild sway. Fortunately the driver was very experienced, slowed down, and all was well, but it was a wake up call for me.

Thanks Red1 for that reply. I'm only intending driving on the motorway once in the trailer. Normally I'd be in the lorry. That's a good price and I've got until September.

I just Googled Towsure and saw it, I have not looked into the specs to see weight limit etc. I had Towsure fit it, as I think the success is in the initial set up.

I had towed lightweight trailers with cars for many many years but when i bought 4x4 and IW trailer i found it felt v bumpy so had antisway bar fitted for my peace of mind
