FAO those who compete in BRC dressage to music. please read.

I feel for the scots! I think the country should be split in half really for RC

I could do that but initially my gripe is with BRC who I think are not catering for the majority of their membership who have horses to enjoy them and compete on a lower plain on a little money. I know ages ago that zeb said (I think it was you zeb apologies if not) that the rule change to make the novice hunter/horse trials 90cm is not supposed to change the courses but that is then BE intro height, ie catering for those members who are affiliated again..... out of my club of 50 I had one person willing to do that height last year on a horse that then went affiliated, and I think its harder to accrue BD points than BSJA money which excludes those from novice SJ. I think it has very many members that will happily compete at a lower level.... our area ran an 80cm (I think) horse trials last year just at area champs and that was very popular and in a lot of ways much more resasonable.

I am all for increasing standards but I think they are missing out on the fact that there are many of us that are happy pootling about and competing at the level we are at

I also dont like the fact that...... to come in line with BD again...... that if I do a novice test (scoring 65 + unaff) that I am competing against people with up to 124 BD points, thats not really encouraging me to progress!

There is a reason that part of our area created their own group last year for interclub fun level competitions.

anyway that is todays rant, I have had some interesting responses from my area so far so am in wait see mode atm!

Those are really valid points ester. There are a lot of RC members who don't want to compete above prelim/novice DR or jump higher than 80cm and there should be more encouragement for them to get out and enjoy riding their horses at that level. As you point out, there's plenty aff stuff above those levels and unaff/RC should really be bridging the gap before aff.

TBH I only have a 20x40 and this has never stopped me competing BD in a 20x60, we even managed a 4th at the Regionals!

I practice by making any circle work bigger ie - if 10 metre in actual test, ride 15 at home, if you know your music inside out you can improvise during the actual test, as long as you do the required movements, the judges don't know whether you have gone wrong or not!

BTW the medium trot does not have to go right across the diagonal, as long as it is 20 metres, it can be done anywhere you like.

lol, I think that depends on what sort of person you are really, everyone does it differently I am an out and out planner and would be terrified knowing I would have to improvise! I am amazed that people can cope with it
