May I ask a question? Do you provide hay (small bales) and anything else to your liveries? If it's not rude, may I ask how much compared to the cost of producing it? Do any of you provide wormers? If so, do you charge a mark up? Thank you in advance.

My YO includes cost of forage in price. Worm count also included and then recommended wormer provided and price added to bill as appropriate.

I want to know what is coming onto my yard, how it is produced and what comes out of the horses and gets deposited on my land. The more hay suppliers delivering at different times isn't good for security either and neither are the arguments of liveries when hay supplies are scarce.

We buy in as gave up making our own as by the time we had paid a contractor, it wasnt much cheaper!
We mark it up by 25p a bale - not much considering we move it, store it, etc. We buy quality rather than the cheaper stuff hence cant mark it up too much as then it would be overpriced compared to other hay etc.
Wormers - we do NOT sell to our liveries as that could be breaking into that legal minefield as we have no license to sell wormers - like pretty much every other livery yard wont!
We charge £3 for a worm count to be done, when it comes to tape worming time, we usually all club together and buy in bulk online.

That's interesting ^^ YOs can't buy then sell on wormers? We are given the wormer-Normectin next week and the mark up is almost 300%.

YO's are not allowed to sell on it is illegal, certainly at that mark up, I have to accept when purchasing in bulk that they are for my use only, I do let my liveries have them at the reduced cost not to make money out of them, as above I collect before ordering so it is a group order rather than buying and selling on to a 3rd party.

I just 50p to bales and wormers which covers either postage or me actually worming the horse

The amount of yards that do it is horrendous! We run our yard by the book and i cringe when people tell me what their YO's charge for wormers!
Wormers can only be sold by a licenced person, ie someone who has been on course by AMTRA and becomes and SQP
''Suitably Qualified Person" is the legal term for animal medicine advisors who form a category of professionally qualified people who are entitled to prescribe and/or supply certain veterinary medicines in the UK under the Veterinary Medicines Regulations. - and horse wormers come under those medicines!
