Anyone know if this true?

If this true is rest of the yard for sale its a real shame and waste of such a lovely big school. Although I've always thought it was to big for up here !

Hi Moon_drop, unfortunately its true I believe. The farm that is next door to Faraways is taking the main school back as an agriculture shed. What a waste of a wonderful place. Their outdoor arena is really the best in the North East!!

Very sad......

Has Grange shut up shop as well.......... Not very sure on that one, never had many dealings in that area.

Such a shame about Faraways though.....ok its a bit out of the way, but it has the best facilities for a show. Loanhead indoor is crap, Ridinghill has been sold, that only really leaves Ladyleys and Goval in the Aberdeenshire area.....and we used to have such a good lot of venues. Forgot Annandale of course, buts its school is not the biggest.

Sean Mardon has a huge indoor arena now as well but I am not sure if he is open for shows etc, or if it is just private.

That's the worst news Ive heard in a long time. It's my local! Can't believe it. What a total utter waste of the best outdoor & indoor centre in the whole of Grampian. Am really peed off.

Remember we've also got Loanhead. Just come back from BSJA there today. They really have to do something with their outdoor warm up. Warming up in pure mud was just a joke today.

Grange was in H & H for sale a few months back.

Faraways was out of the way but it was closest for us for indoor. We've got Burgie but The schools so small I don't think I'd get Maddie to turn!

She big girl you know !

What about craigie do they have an indoor school ?

Magicmelon I did mention Loanhead but the last time I was there I felt the surface on the indoor was not great, and as you said the outdoor is horrible.

Yeah Burgie is not the biggest at all. Dont you have another up in Moray but the name keeps on escaping me?

Craigies only have a 20 x 40 outdoor arena, no indoor.

There is no other venue in the North East that has the Faraways facilities including the restaurant onlooking the inside and outside of the arenas.

Do you mean Mundole? Thats at Forres, but its only a large outdoor. Their surface is a lot better nowadays. But they need an indoor.

Yup thats the one......

Never been there myself but heard of regulars down this neck of the woods travelling up.

First choice for any horse would be Scott Sinclair, excellent jockey, did a fantastic job backing our stallion and have put a lot of work his way. PM me for his contact details if you want. He is based in the Peterhead area but he has a small indoor school, so can work with horses through the winter without any probs. Very sympathetic jockey who does a fabulous job. Second choice would be the Craigies.

Hopefully one of your other show venues will buy the surface from Faraway

Weezy dont think we would be that lucky. The outdoor arena is just fabulous, excellent for jumping and dressage. Horses just go fab on it. Have no idea what will become of it, its not your normal shape of outdoor.....in fact it would be very difficult to explain the shape of it......

thats awful news...thought it was bad enough to have them sell off all the lovely rs horses a wee while back...but thats the nicest place i've been to in a while. I went to there for activities week a few years back...and wa supposed to compete in the inter schools dressage thingy but cause of the weather and things didnt get to do it this year...was desperate to do it next year...well gutted!!!
well...at least it wont mean having to tow up that boody hill..

Oh b****r!!We'll soon have nowhere to go for indoor school shows!!Pity they weren't closer to the city excuse the pun but think it was cos they were faraway!!!
Sessnie went ages ago,now faraway.Loanhead will go eventually when Stewart Milne decides to build houses there but that has always been hanging over its head.
As someone says just leaves Goval and ladyleys.
At this rate soon the only 'local' indoor will be Dabbs in Fife

That's really tough. Some parts of Scotland are so badly served for any decent facilities with almost everything concentrated in the central belt. I'm almost embarrassed to say that we're an hour from Dabbs, Rowallan and Ingliston with only 1/2 an hour taking us to SNEC, Gleneagles and Devon as was. The new Kingsbarns (don't believe the hype - it's not at all impressive) is a similar distance away. We do realise how lucky we are - honestly!

moon_drop - PM'd you with regard to Scott Sinclair. I think people like Alan Spalding (Aboyne I think?) and Fraser Macdonald (Aberdeen) also do youngsters. Depends if you want him backed with the view to SJ?

Am peed off with this because we seriously lack decent venue's up here. The NE of Scotland apparently has the second highest equine population, second only to Newmarket - surely that means we should get decent venue's?!!!

Alan Spalding does not back horses any more, he puts his horses to the Craigies. He is not willing to get injured. I dont think that it makes any difference who backs your horse and what discipline they actually do, as its all just the basic work for a start anyway.

The North East of Scotland has a very high population of horses, and is thought to be the second highest population in the UK, but not the same kind of money available to put into building new equestrian venues. We have to remember that the Faraways crew got help with building their complex, as did Ridinghill with their indoor arena through European funds.

Goval is an idealy situated place, they have three schools but it would be great if they had a warm viewing gallery and better facilities like a cafe and toilets all under one roof. Ladyleys has the viewing gallery and more and more arena's but the quality of the surfaces is not great.

Different if Donald Trump gets the go-ahead for the multi-million pound golfing venture on the outskirts of Aberdeen, as this will pull in a whole new host of money into the North East. All depends on how the Council goes today with their planning application.

Ohh I didnt know Alan didnt back his anymore. I guess, when your main income depends on horses then getting injured is too high a risk.

It's a shame we don't have the money up here. There IS money around but not enough people willing to spend it I guess!

Never been to Ridinghill as they tend to just do dressage don't they. In fact, is it even still doing things? Goval is lovely but the indoor is a bit narrow and the outdoor surfaces aren't great (we've slipped flat on it before as have others). And like you say, they really need toilets nearby. It is nice though so certainly don't want to complain! Ladyleys is ok, but the indoor is simply too small. I haven't seen the other new indoor though so maybe its bigger. But you could never hold BSJA there. And the surface is weird - one of mine hates jumping on it so I dont go anymore.

Looks like Trump has got his way now its been approved. Shame he couldn't do like Gleneagles and have an equestrian centre too! Maybe we should all email his company asking for one!!
