Fly was born here, bred by my hubby. She wasn’t meant to stay as he was already keeping a couple of dog pups from the litter but Fly was quite shy and quirky, even as a pup, so she got to stay and moved into the house to help her grow in confidence ... and she never moved out .
She was a great working dog. She and Allan were as one when at work and she seemed to instinctively know what he wanted her to do and was always in the right place at the right time. Patient and kind towards young pups, she helped train many a young dog. After a closed pyometra meant she had to have an emergency spay she semi-retired herself and became a much loved family pet, enjoying a retirement of country walks and snoozing by the fireside, as well as helping keep sheep together for the young trainees.
She’ll be missed terribly but we are all so grateful we had 14 wonderful years with her. Rest easy old girl. ?
Edited to add : it was definitely poignant that as the vet was putting her to sleep, a flock of hoggs recently put back out to the hill appeared and ran right by the grave Allan had dug on the hillside for Fly’s final resting place ?.
