The influential stallion Chin Chin has been put down at the age of 29. The VDL Stud reported that his condition and health of the legendary went down very fast at the beginning of September and therefore they decided to let him pass away.

He had a distinguished competition career, ridden by his Mexican owner Jaime Azcarraga, at a time when it was much less usual for stallions to compete at top level for long periods than is now the case. He competed in the World Cup Finals of 1988, 89 and 90, the World Equestrian Games of 1990, and the Olympics of 1988 (he was 6th in the Individual) and 1992. The Holsteiner was by Constant (a son of Cor de la Bryère), out of Larese, a mare by Farnese. At the age of 24 he was bought by the VDL Stud, and moved to the Netherlands, where he was a welcome addition to European breeding lines. Proven offspring include Ta Belle van Sombeke (ridden by Jos Lansink), and the stallion Phin Phin (ridden by Roelof Bril) who sired Philippa Dobby's good mare Utah VII. His sons Zelote VDL and Zapatero VDL have been approved for the KWPN studbook. Every year at the mare shows his daughters were very successful. In 2006 his daughter Welena VDL became Dutch Free Jumping Champion and Well Born Rilexy placed 2nd. This year many mares were selected for the National mare show: Zendence VDL became Champion of the 3-year old mares in-hand and the filly Chinchinidee became the Dutch Foal Champion.

Frozen semen of Chin Chin is still available at the VDL Stud and also from Keros in Passendaele (Belgium). Video of him in action can be found at www.keros.be/en/stallions/chinchin.php
