Is driving me insane! Several of his sheep (the same gang everytime!) keep climbing through the fencing (narrow wire - we have an electric top wire to keep horses away from it). Im fed up with it. We've already put up a heap of chicken wire which is FAR from ideal with horses. I have complained to him a few times now. Its ridiculous. We barely have enough grazing as it is without someone elses animals munching on it for free! I scare them out 3 times a day at the moment and it really is driving me crazy. What else can I do with them???? Is there any way I could electrify one of the lower rungs of wire just for the day for them to take the hint??

That would not make any difference whatsoever as they won't feel anything with their wool. Don't know what would stop them other than the abbatoir.

Yeah, thing is the farmer said 2 weeks ago that they were heading off to slaughter then and they did all disappear for a fornight but are now back and its the SAME ONES!

I dont want to fall out with the farmer but really dont see why we should put up with this. Maybe I should I let my horses out in his field?!

Electric fencing is usually very effective at keeping sheep in (or out!) Can you electrify the chicken netting for 24 hours?

Or if you have patience, you buy a Maremma Sheepdog or Great Pyrenees puppy, let it live with the horses in and around the stable, from somewhere between 6 months to 1 years of age it should be ready, willing and able to keep sheeps/other dogs etc out of your field.
Don't worry about the Sheep in the Sheepdog-name, like other dogs, Maremmas doesn't know their breedname, they can bond with everything from alpacas to goats.

Or you get a animal communicator to come and talk some sense in to them.

from Sweden.

You think you've got problems - we 'acquired' 6 cows earlier this week. They had escaped their field, crossed several other fields (over the fences) and ended up in ours. Farmer attempted to get them out but failed, one jumped back into another field. The next day we were down to 2 and they are still there as farmer did not turn up today to get them!

I would speak to the farmer & get him to sort out the fencing at his expense. You have done sufficient to stop your horses getting into his field, he hasn't done enough to stop his getting into your paddocks.

Lol Zizz, that did cross my mind this morning as I was herding them up!! They're little brats though as they know exactly where their field is and wont go anywhere but to the fence between to get through. Ive tried herding them in the opposite direction to get them into another farmers field (in the hope he'd then get grumpy and return them to the farmer...!).

I dont know if I can elecrtify wire fencing?? Is this possible?

Re: the sheepdog... hmmm... I'll think about that one

LadyT - We've had the cow as well! During the summer a cow next door decided to leap over the fence into our field! Called farmer, by the time he arrived the damn cow had jumped BACK again but snapped a strainer in half and dragged all the fence down (our elecrified stuff). FED UP WITH OTHER PEOPLES ANIMALS ON MY LAND!
